As Veronica is working on her studies, her phones buzzes with showing an incoming call from Cheryl Blossom. She clicks answer, knowing that she needs a break from studying.
"Hey, Vee" Cheryl's voice says. Veronica rolls her eyes, "Only Betty calls me that" she says, getting defensive in her voice. "What do you want, Cheryl? I'm studying". "I was going to ask if you wanted to go to the carnival? We could get some super cute pics, post them on Insta and I also just want to spend some time with you" Cheryl says. "Why don't you just go with Toni?" Veronica retorts. "Well," Cheryl says, "Toni is dealing with a fever and as I said, I want us to spend more time with each other." "I need a break from studying so might as well, where should we meet up?"-
The weather is chilly, the breeze is crisp and the air smells like caramel and sugar. Veronica gets out of her car, inhaling the fall air. The heels on her boots clack as she walks across the parking lot. Veronica then sees a silhouette with beautiful ginger locks.
"Hey, Cheryl!" Veronica greets. Cheryl turns around to see the raven haired girl, "Ronnie! You look nice, not as nice as me, but, surprised you actually came." Veronica looks confused, "why wouldn't I come?" She asks. Cheryl flicks a hair behind her shoulder, "well didn't you break up with that red head drab Archie Andrews?"
"How do you know about that?" Veronica asks warily. Cheryl smirks, "oh trust me, Vee, I know when someone has been through a breakup. Not to mention that Archie posted about it on his private twitter account.."
Veronica gets an annoyed look on her face, "Cheryl. I already told you, only Betty gets to call me Vee."
"You always get offended when I call you 'Vee', but when I called you 'Ronnie' aka Archie's nickname for you, you completely ignore it." Cheryl states. Veronica ignores the statement, "can we just go into the fair already?" And they do so
-
About an hour pass and the two girls have mainly just walked around and ate a little bit of fair food. "Cheryl," Veronica starts, "could we talk about something? Over there?" She points to a picnic table more towards the back of the fair. Cheryl points her head to the table, "sure."
They head over to the table and sit down. "Okay, what do you want to talk about?" Cheryl asks. Veronica starts to tense up, feeling really uncomfortable to actually admit what she wants to talk about. Cheryl takes ahold of Veronica's hand, "it's okay. I won't judge. Even if it's about that dingbat Archibald Andrews." Veronica chuckles, still having a very tense feel in her body, "no... it's, uh, not about Archie." She starts to choke a little bit on her words, "Cheryl?"
"Present." Cheryl smiles, causing Veronica to loosen up a little. "Um... how did- how did you know that you were, um, into girls?" Veronica finally gets out. Cheryl breathes in and out slowly, her smile wasn't necessarily gone, but wasn't there either. "Well... in middle school I had this best friend. Her name was Heather. She was gorgeous. Short brown hair, fair skin, a little bit on the heavy side but that didn't really matter. I always thought she was pretty, but didn't think much of it. We always had sleepovers, we changed in front of one another and stuff, then there was this one night. The night. Just like every other weekend, we were having a sleepover, but this time, we were at my house. We were lying in my bed, I turned over, and she did too, we looked into one another's eyes. Then to our lips. Next thing I knew, I was kissing her, and, she was kissing me. It felt... right. My dreadful mother then came to check up on us, to make sure we were doing alright, and she saw Heather and I. She screamed. Oh, how loud she screamed. After that night, I never spoke with Heather again." Cheryl says, crying at the memories. Veronica squeezed Cheryl's hand, "I'm so sorry, Cheryl. I- I had no idea you had to go through this. That's awful."
"Yeah, it uh- it sucks. Why'd you bring this up anyways?" Cheryl asks, wiping the tears on her cheeks. Veronica takes a breath. "Do you wanna know why I broke up with Archie?" She asks the red haired girl. Cheryl nods. "Not even Archie knows the real reason, so you can not tell anyone, okay?" Veronica tells. Cheryl nods, "I swear I won't tell."
Veronica tenses up again, "the reason Archie and I broke up is because... I like, no, love someone else. And there's no way in hell she likes me back, because of that stupid boy!" She then starts to sob, feeling ashamed of herself. Cheryl lifts up Veronica's head, "Veronica... do you like Betty?"
Veronica nods her head. "I, uh, I remember the day I met her. I thought she was so pretty, she was so sweet. The perfect girl. During the cheerleading tryouts, I couldn't help myself. I just, I just kissed her. And it felt good. It felt right." Cheryl grins a little, "it's scary to realize you're not who you thought you were. So what exactly do you think you are? Lesbian, bi, pan or maybe you're not sure yet?" Cheryl asks. Veronica looks up, "um... I know I'm not a lesbian because I do feel attracted to boys. I'm bi, I think. I did some research about different sexualities and bi felt most fitting. So, yeah, I guess that means I'm bi." Veronica let's out, shaking from the fear she's feeling. Cheryl stands up and sits on Veronica's side of the table, giving her a very supportive hug. "Thank you" Veronica says. Cheryl unwraps her arms from Veronica, looking her in the eyes, "for what?" She asks obliviously. Veronica giggles, "for helping me. With my thing" she empathizes on the word 'thing'. Cheryl swipes her hand as if she's no, "it's not a problem. But before you decide to tell your parents, make sure that they will be okay with it. I don't want you to be abused in any type of way. Nothing like I went through." She tells Veronica, "and another thing. Make sure at some point you tell Betty. Even if you think she won't feel the same way, you should tell her some point because you never know. Maybe she's feeling the same way but is scared to admit how she's really really feeling, okay?"
"Okay... I think I'll tell my parents tonight. I feel like if they were homophobic they wouldn't allow me to have so many LGBT friends!" Veronica says, still having a little bit of a shake in her voice. Cheryl smiles, "that's great, Veronica. I'm really happy that you told me about this. If you ever have girl trouble, you know who to call."
-
Veronica and Cheryl stay at the carnival for about an extra hour; going on rides and just feeling really happy.
Veronica looks at her phone, "I should probably head home, my parents will start to get worried." Cheryl nods and gives her friend a hug, "good luck tonight, I'm rooting for you!"
"Thank you", Veronica says. "Thank you"
