"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" Lynn and I screamed in unison."You have a tail!" Lynn yelled.
"You're a fish!" I shouted.
"You're a mermaid," Lynn gasped.
I rubbed my eyes to see if I was only seeing things. All I could see in front of me Mikala raked her fingers through her stringy blonde hair casually while still being part fish.
"Humans," Mikala rolled her eyes. "Let's get one thing straight, we are not mermaids. We're called seasceans. Second, this is a fin, not a tail. And... are you guys feeling ok? You look pale."
Lynn and I slowly turned to each other, my little sister was petrified. I'm positive I was matching the same look of horror.
"Wh-What the hell?" Is all I could manage to get out at the moment.
"Wow, this is going better than expected. I thought one of you would've fainted by now-"
Lynn's eyes rolled to the back of her head as she dropped to the sand. I got grits and bits in my eyes and mouth.
"Never mind," Mikala said.
I dragged Lynn's limp body onto the blanket and laid her in a comfortable position. Mikala's fin was swishing in the water, beckoning me to come over to it. I got closer and analyzed her teal scales that were glittering with white swirling patterns.
"Wow," I touched her fin.
It felt like smooth and corse at the same time. Like velvet.
"Yeah..." Mikala sighed. "Tell me, what color is my hair right now?"
"Blonde, why?"
"Then there's still a good amount of fae dust still in your system. Sit in the water with me. It should wear off in a bit," Mikala said. "And I'll tell you as much as I can."
I settled into the water with her, sitting next to her... fin.
"I really wish it was your mom telling you this," Mikala frowned. "Not me. This wasn't part of the plan. Now everything's all screwed up and your life could be in grave danger and your dad didn't sacrifice his life for this-"
"My dad?" My eyes squeezed. "Mikala, what... oh god. I'm dreaming. That must be it. All I have to do is pinch myself and I'll wake up."
I pinched my shoulder, and still seemed to be in the same situation. Mikala's fin was still bobbing around like it had a mind of its own.
"You were going to have to find out some day. Janet should've told you the truth a long time ago," Mikala wailed. "I don't even know where to start."
"Well, find a place before I end up fainting from emotional exhaustion like Lynn."
Mikala nodded, her teal eyes were bloodshot.
"I'll tell it to you like a story, maybe that'll help," Mikala cleared her throat. "Once upon a time, a planet was forged into the universe called Earth."
"Mikala-"
"Shhh, give me a second, it'll make sense," She said. "The Earth was divided into three realms. The sky named Asteria, the land named Terra, and the sea called Cerulean. Winged humanoid creatures, fae, well, humans call them fairies, took control of the sky. The land was divided amongst the humans and paragons which are humans with gems in their hearts that give them elemental abilities. And the sea belonged to the seasceans, people of the ocean that have fins underwater, but can grow legs if they're on land. Are you following me right now?"
