Harry Potter: A broken boy. His parents heartlessly murdered as a child, forced to live with his abusive Aunt, Uncle and Cousin. When he gets his letter from Hogwarts, a beacon of hope seems to shine in his life. Until his fourth year, life was problematic, but not tragic. Then, his life shatters as he watches an innocent friend be murdered, and Voldemort rise again. He becomes gloomy, unpredictable, depressed. No longer the cheery child. Then, at the end of the next year, he watches as his God Father, the only guardian he thinks he has, is murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange. Harry shows determined bravery and selflessness. Any other kid who was that famous would of let the fame get to their head. But Harry would honestly trade it all for his parents back. He voluntarily goes to die in DH, showing bravery. Harry is a well developed protagonist, showing how a child can transition into a broken young man.
Bella Swan: Spoilt mary sue. Acts like her life is so hard because her parents are divorced, yet 50% of US children have divorced parents. Gets to live with her daddy. Meets a brooding guy, and falls for him AGAINST ALL BETTER JUDGEMENT. She has that nice guy Mike head over heels for her, but NO. She chooses an abusive douchebag. Their relationship ticks ALL boxes for an abusive relationship. Later on, she is seen moping because he DUMPED her. That's horrible. Just because a guy dumped you, doesn't mean you try to KILL YOURSELF. Then, she happily accepts him back. She begs to be turned into a cannibal all the time. Is seen begging for sex. Gets herself impregnated, and stupidly keeps a demon baby. Acts like it's OKAY for her nearly adult friend to fall in love with her baby. She refuses to listen to anyone's opinion but hers, sometimes Edward's. Is painted out as perfect. Pretty enough to have all the guys falling for her. Gets straight A's. Her "fault" is being clumsy, which she only uses to be cute. Mary sue, poorly developed character.
