Chapter 1
My Version Of Flying
His thundering hooves beneath me. We take off. For a moment I'm flying, he is a Pegasus without wings. I feel the adrenaline pumping through me. The next moment, I've landed gracefully.I walk around the arena towards my instructor, Vanessa.
"Well done, Britney. We just need to work on him picking up his legs a little more, otherwise great. You can untack Fame and rinse him off," she instructed as I walked passed her, towards the arena's exit. After a long, hard jumping lesson.
I walk out of the arena panting. The walk to the stables is possibly one of the best parts: my horse breathing heavily underneath me, the spring flowers blooming all around me in clumps.
After taking off my saddle and bridle, I drop them off in the tack room: a small room next to Vanessa's office. I start walking towards the field to drop off Fame. As I walk down the freshly, bricked path. All around us the luscious, green grass is growing, after a cold few months.
I watched the rest of the horses either running around, eating or rolling.
After reaching the gate, opening the latch and stepping inside. I unclipped the strap of the baby blue halter and let Fame go.

I sat on the wooden bench, outside The Office, waiting for my mom to pick me up, it's Saturday, so I rode early this morning. I looked at my watch: 13:04. I reached for my phone in my back pocket. Just as I'm about to grab it and send her a message. The silver Range Rover pulls up. I walk up to it, open the trunk and throw in my bags containing my clothes.
"Hey Mom," I greeted, as I sat down on the front seat, pulling out my phone to check for any new messages.
"How was riding, Sweetie?" She said enthusiastically. Putting my phone in the compartment located in the middle.
"Great," I gleamed, wanting to explain, for a moment forgetting she knows absolutely nothing about horses. Don't get me wrong, she loves watching me and hearing about it, but I could be eliminated and she would think I have a chance at winning.
I reached up to the dashboard to turn on the radio, when I noticed a greyscale invitation laying there.
"What is this," I asked my mom curiously, grabbing the invitation instead of turning on the radio.
"Oh that. Aunt Nikki invited us to a black tie dinner this evening." She answered happily, as we pulled up to the house. The huge walls visible from miles away. My mom is a top lawyer. As you could imagine, it pays the bills.
Aunt Nikki owns a tack shop near my riding yard. She is probably my biggest supporter, she comes to most -- if not all -- of my shows.

I looked at my outfit lying on the bed one more time, after I had finished showering.
"Perfect," I said pleased with myself.
As I slipped on my dress: the top being white lace, with a black waist belt and a black bow on it, the black skirt floating out a little. It ends mid thigh. I paired it with a pair of simple black platforms. I finished it off with black eyeliner and mascara. Putting my lipstick in my silver bag.
I walked downstairs towards the kitchen, where my mom was waiting in a long, black dress with a slit revealing her slim leg. A Chanel purse and her phone in her hands.
My dad, sitting on the chair closest to the main entrance. He's wearing a smart, black suit, with a dark, grey tie.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked, grabbing the keys to the car. My dad was a well known scientist a few years ago, before he had an accident in the laboratory.
"Yes," I answered, I thought about grabbing a energy bar out of the cupboard, because I'm famished after today. I stopped myself as I thought it would be rude considering I'm going out to dinner now.

We were all seated at a large mahogany table in a restaurant, my aunt must have hired for the night.
"We are going to get drinks from the bar, Honey." My dad informed me, as he left in the direction of the bar.
My aunt must have seen me sit down, as she came over with a big grin on her face. I stood up and then she gave me a tight hug.
"How are you, Darling?" She said with a cheeky grin on her face as she hugged me tightly.
"I'm amazing, thanks." I said.
"And riding?"
"Even better," I said cheekily.
"Good, now I would like to introduce you to someone." She said, "it's my best friend's son, he just moved here from California."
"Oh cool," I smiled at her, waiting to meet him. Questions flooded into my mind. Not that I wanted to meet a boy, but because I'm a curious person.
"Matthew!" She yelled, loud enough for him to hear but not loud enough to disturb anyone else. A crowd had began to form, I couldn't see him at first.
I felt myself blushing and my palms sweating, as he emerged. He smiled at me. His smile not like other jerky seventeen year old's smiles. His smile is sweet and shy, oppose to others whose are more of a cheeky smirk. He was good-looking but not in a jaw dropping way, but I definitely liked the way he looked. His brown hair cut short, gelled up to the left.
"Hi, I'm Matthew." He said, still smiling shyly.
"Britney," I mumbled, staring into his deep, ocean-blue eyes. It must have been a coincidence that he had blue eyes, that reminded me of the ocean, and California ocean for miles.
"I have to go greet more guests," she said as she left, smiling. I had completely forgotten she was there, I was still stuck in those eyes, and smile, and his cute hair.
We both mumbled a 'okay' under our breaths. She walked away, towards the entrance.
"Would you like to sit?" He offered, pulling out a chair, like a gentleman. His voice sending chills down my spine.
"Sure," I felt myself blushing, he probably noticed too. I felt like slapping myself. He started chuckling, he definitely noticed.
"Which school do you go to?" He asked.
"Fourways," I answered, "my aunt said that you just moved here from California, which school are going to?"
"Fourways too," he said with a small smirk.
"I can show you around, if you want? The school is pretty big, I remember the first day I started at Fourways, I got lost. Instead of walking into the Math class, I walked into Spanish. The teacher started swearing at me in Spanish. Not my best moment." He burst out laughing, and I couldn't help it either. I felt so comfortable with him, like I could tell him anything. He would be the vault that I kept my secrets.
"Great! I'm starting on Monday." He smiled at me. I realized that I had zoned out, probably imagining my future with the guy.
For some reason, I'm really excited for Monday.
