The CEO? Damn. First day and this?
"Sure, but I don't know how I can be of much of help?" I asked.
"Just take down notes, that's all Miss Greene" he said.
"Alright chop chop! Let's get going. Here take this!" He said while throwing a notepad at me. "Make sure you'll take down all the important points you hear?"
I nodded and followed after him. "Of course."
As we headed to the highest floor to have the meeting, I tried to remember what I knew about Mr Erin, the CEO.
I knew that he was 67 this year, married twice, and has 2 sons and a daughter. He was also worth billions, the top25 richest people in the world i think.
Wow, he was pretty important. And getting to see the big man on my first day, that's something.
As we walked through the doors of the meeting room, I realized we were the last few people there. Luckily, Mr Evans has not arrived. Mr Parker had briefed me on what this meeting would be about during our little walk to the meeting room. The meeting room had glass doors and glass windows. It was a total see through room with panels everywhere.
"Sorry I'm late I had something to attend to." I heard someone say after 10 minutes of waiting in the meeting room. "Shall we get started?" Mr Evans says with confidence. At 67, he really does look his age. Building a billion dollar empire is not the easiest thing to do.
"Very sorry for the last minute notice but the reason why I've called all of you here today is to formally tell you that I'll be retiring." He said, and I could hear gasps coming from everywhere.
"It's been a long and tedious run, but a very rewarding time. This company is in great shape and I'm very proud of all of its successes, and this I've managed to achieve because of all of you. It has been a pleasure working with such brilliant minds, and I'd like to thank you for all your hard work."
This was news. But who would take over his place?
"As you all know, my eldest son Derek has been working under me for the past few years. He has learnt everything he needs to know and I've taught him all I can. He'll be taking over Evans enterprises and I am sure he is more than capable of handling my job. Even though he is merely 28 years old, I can honestly say he is a mature, smart and thoughtful man and I trust him impeccably. I hope you do too. Staring next month, I'll be stepping down and Derek will take over. This is something I've thought about deeply, and I am more than happy with my decision." Mr Evans says proudly. He had a satisfied look to his face and for a moment I'm glad that he's happy, this is what he needs. Giving the CEO position to his son is such an obvious move though.
Derek Evans? I think I've seen him on the news or magazines before but I've never been interested enough to pay attention. Will he be enough to take care of such a big company? 28 is extremely young to be given this position...
