For the months that followed, you watched hopelessly as the relationship between Levi and Petra grew.

You had become miserable. You were Levi's oldest friend. His best friend. You were the one that was always there for him. The one he always relied on. Was this fate's way of repaying you? By making you watch your first love, your only love get married to another woman? It was too cruel.

You resented Petra. You envied her. You were robbed of your one true love. She had taken him from right under your nose. And you felt so helpless, for you could never win him back.

Love was a tricky thing. It brought harm, sometimes insanity upon its unlucky victims. But love also brought peace and happiness. So was love a good thing or a bad thing?

To you it was bad. Your heart had chosen the wrong person to love. It had chosen the one person who would never love you back. The man that you had so desired had set eyes upon another woman. A woman with the purest heart. But your heart still yearned for Levi. The more you couldn't have him, the more desperately your heart ached for him. All you wanted was for Levi to love you back. Was that too much to ask for?

The wedding was a marvelous one.

You had watched from the shadows. Petra had originally wanted you to be her bridesmaid. You had politely declined, lying about how you had to train for the upcoming expedition. You knew it would be utter hell if you were her bridesmaid. You would probably burst into tears halfway through the ceremony.

You weren't going to lie, Petra's dress was absolutely beautiful, and it made her look gorgeous. And Levi... Levi. He looked absolutely striking in his black tuxedo. You were so tempted to just run up to the alter and kiss him.

When Petra had walked down the aisle, clutching a bouquet of red roses in hand, she had smiled like there was no tomorrow. And the way that Levi had looked at her. Like she was the most precious thing in the world. Oh, how you wished he would look at you like that. But, you could tell that he was truly in love with her, and you could do nothing about it.

If only you had confessed to him... Maybe, just maybe, you could've been the one walking down the aisle. The one to be his bride.

---

After all the hardships that Levi had endured, he, more than anyone else in this world, deserved to have true happiness. You had hoped that his happiness would reside within you, but if it didn't, then so be it. Your love for Levi was so great that you would give up your own happiness for his.

In love, you had to make a lot of sacrifices. Even if the one you love doesn't love you back.
