Teen Titans #35 Discussion... Just Why?

Well a new issue of teen titans is out and I guess I have to talk about it. This was it. The big issue where we find out why Roundhouse betrayed the team in the first place and the truth is that it is because of Damian. You see when Damian fought scarecrow over a year ago he blew up a building so that scarecrow couldn't spread his fear toxin across the city. Even though he thought the perimeter was secure the building getting destroyed lead to the death of Roundhouse's sister.

So the reason Roundhouse was revealed to be the traitor was because he wanted to turn the team against Damian to show everyone he's the bad guy.... Ugh.. They have continuously regressed Damian in this run and it has not benefitted his character at all. I don't like this direction with him and the rest of this team. Emiko has suffered too. She killed Deathstroke. Why? What made her do it? What about Crush? She's just angry all the time and wants to be Djinn's girlfriend. Kid Flash hasn't been good for this team either. He doesn't seem to be the good guy he is supposed to be and I don't get why he would even be on this team at this point. Then we have Djinn who likes Crush but also likes Robin. But, now she hates him and now she has issues with Crush and the love triangle continues time and time again. Then finally we have Roundhouse who isn't actually working with the Other. But, he is the traitor on the team. He tries to justify his actions but if he was against Damian and nobody else than why would he put the rest of them at risk like that? Why not confront Damian in the first place? Also, if you are Damian and you are supposed to be super duper smart Detective who knows everything about everyone then how in the hell could you not figure out the details about Roundhouse's sister and her death? You already know who he is. You know he had a sister. You should have figured out the reason she died while you were doing your research. Then once you did your background check on him you could have then come to the realization of "oh hey I was partially responsible for her death. He would have a vendetta against me." or some shit like that. But, no instead he continues to act like a moron for whatever reason. Also, on top of that he acts like a heartless bastard. He doesn't even apologize for what happened to Roundhouse's sister. He should feel terrible about what happened. The Damian that has grown as a character would have apologized for this or felt some sort of remorse for what happened. But, not this Damian. This regressed Damian doesn't show any of that. In fact he says to Roundhouse that if Roundhouse lets him out of his chains that he as in Damian will forgive him.

Like seriously dude!? You just found out the reason his sister died and you didn't even apologize or show remorse for any of it!

Shipping Moments
There were no Damiko moments within this issue. There was a fake out DamiDjinn moment. But, that was just Roundhouse controlling Djinn. Hence Damian's confusion when she said that she loved him.

I'll give the issue this. I did get a little bit of a chuckle because of Damian's confusion. But, anyways Roundhouse then tells Damian that he is going to take something from him like Damian did from him. So he decides to trap Djinn in her ring forever. The team is upset. But, it is Crush who is the most angry and upset about it. Yeah we still got that love triangle stuff going on. Crush seems to care more about Djinn than Damian so just have her be with Djinn then and then you can have Damian be with Emiko. Simple fix. Then we can move on to some better storylines and such. At least that is my viewpoint on all of this.

As you can tell I wasn't a huge fan of this issue. I was actually kind of looking forward to figuring out Roundhouse's motivation. That is until I saw that it was Damian who was responsible for all of it (because of course he is at this point). So in essence Damian looks to have created his own supervillain. Much like say the Avengers did in Captain America Civil War with Zemo. So once again a regressed Damian Wayne is causing problems. If the goal of this run was to regress Damian's character and make him more unlikable instead of having him go through some sort of character growth then congratulations you have succeeded in that department. It also looks like Djinn is going to stay trapped in her ring for a few issues and that we will finally be meeting the other soon. So that's cool I guess.
