Kairen's POV
I stood by the well, I wonder if I could pass through like my mom did. Would I be accepted in the other time? Would my grandmother, uncle, and great grandfather accept me? Would I make friends? So many things that would go unanswered. "Kairen." I heard my uncle say. "Sesshomaru." I said, looking at him. "It's been a while." Sesshomaru said. "Yeah." I said. Father always told me that he and Sesshomaru hated each other. If that was the case, then why would he spend time with me, especially since I'm more human than my father? "Hey, Sesshomaru, why do you spend time with me? My mother is human, and my father is a half demon, and your brother. Don't you two hate each other?" I asked. "I loathe him, but you are much different than him. He is very selfish and uncaring. You are his eldest daughter, and you are left alone. That is why you turn to me." Sesshomaru said. "He has to tend to the others, though." I said. "He doesn't need to ignore you, just because you are seventeen doesn't mean that you're too old to have affection." Sesshomaru said. "Thank you for saying that." I said, smiling a little. "I have to go. Hideo is probably waiting for me." Sesshomaru said. "Is Rin taking care of him?" I asked. "No, my mother." Sesshomaru said. "When are we meeting again?" I asked. "Five days." Sesshomaru said. "Alright. I'll see you then." I said. Sesshomaru began walking away, and I jumped on his back. "Hey, I love you, Uncle Sesshomaru." I said, hugging him. He sighed, and he patted my back. "I love you too, chisana." Sesshomaru said, and I got off of him. "Tell everyone that I said hi." I said. "I'll bring them sometime." Sesshomaru said. "Yay! I miss them!" I said excitedly. Sesshomaru smiled a tiny smile, and he flew off. I began walking back to the village, and I saw three of my siblings playing. Ashi and Asu were twins, they were six years old, and the youngest was Rouichi. Iwae was two years older than the twins, and Kasuga was two years younger than me. I feel like I'd have more siblings in the future. Ugh, I hate this so much! I walked up to them, and Ashi greeted me. "Big sister!" Ashi said, hugging me. "Hey." I said. "Mama is making dinner." Asu said. I walked into the house, seeing my mother making some food. I stared at her blankly, and she smiled. "Welcome home, Kairen." mother said, smiling softly at me. "Hi." I said. I went and sat down on my tatami mat, and soon, dinner was done. I ate a few bowls of stew, and I stole a bag of pink sugar candies that were sitting on the floor. "Alright, I'm going into the woods for a while." I said. "Alright, be home by your bedtime." father said, not even looking at me. I felt like growling at him. "Can I go?" Kasuga asked. "Hell no." I said. "Watch it." mother said, giving me a look. I growled a little. "No, you can't. I want to be alone." I said. "Leave her be, Kasuga." father said. "I'll be back." I said, and I ran out of the house and into the woods. I followed the scent, finding the wolf dens. "Hey!" I shouted, waving to them. "Oh, our dearest Kairen!" Ayame shouted, and I skidded to a stop. "I missed you guys!" I shouted, hugging the woman. "Kairen?" Koga asked, looking at me. I smiled, and I hugged him too. "Hey! I missed you too!" I shouted, and Koga swung me around. I laughed, and I smelled those four scents. "Hey guys!" I said excitedly. These were Koga's four sons. Two sets of twins. There was Jikai, the oldest of them all. Then, there was Kanaru, the second oldest. Then, there was Tetsuo and Unkai. They were my best friends. "Hey." Jikai said, smiling at me. "You look amazing, as usual." Tetsuo said, winking. Ayame smacked him on the head, and he whimpered. "Be respectful!" Ayame yelled. "She does get her looks from her mother." Koga said. Ayame glared at him like I've never seen before, and she smacked him so hard that there was a bright red mark on his face. I sighed. "Alright, that's our cue to leave. Mom, dad, we're going to go burn a human village to the ground and harvest their insides, that okay with you?" Kanaru asked. "Yep, perfectly fine. Don't go overboard this time." Koga said. I giggled. "What are you actually going to be doing?" Ayame asked, rolling her eyes. "I don't know. We won't kill anything unless it's trying to kill us or we're hungry." Jikai said. "No humans." Koga said. "Got it." Unkai said, and we walked away from the dens. The five of us walked aimlessly for a while, then I smelled something. Demons were coming near. I was alert now, and so were the boys. I pulled out my sword, and the others pulled out their weapons. Suddenly, ten demons showed up. "Oh, would you look at that? Four young wolf demons, and a young half demon girl." one of the demons said. "Seems like quite a good meal, better than those two rabbits that escaped." another demon said. "That girl can be of more use than just a meal. She is quite pretty, she would do good for childbearing." another demon said. "You think you'll even get close to touching me? Just try it." I said, baring my fangs. "A feisty one, I like her." another demon said. "Your words disgust me." I said. "I guess it is useless. The strong ones don't produce good children. GET THEM!" the head demon yelled, then I heard something else. "Amejisuto Bakuha!" I heard a familiar voice yelled, and then I jumped out of the way along with the wolf demon brothers. In an instant, all of the demons were reduced to ash. I grinned. The smiling face of Haia greeted us. Haia was a rabbit demon, and she was amazing. She was very powerful, but only used her strength for good. Rabbit demons were very friendly, and protected human villages. "Whew! That was a hot blast! My gem didn't like that one." Haia said, bounding over to us. "Hey Haia! How have you been?" Kanaru asked. "I've been quite alright!" Haia said, grinning. Suddenly, I heard fast footsteps coming towards us. "HAIA!" Shynah, Haia's older sister, shouted. She tackled Haia, and glared at her. "You idiot! Don't you know that it's dangerous to go off by yourself!?" Shynah yelled. "Get off of me, you broad! I saved our friends, stupid!" Haia yelled, and Shynah got off. The two of them stood up and glared at each other, then I cleared my throat. "So, how did your days go?" I asked. "Oh! It was so fun! The villagers thanked me for protecting them by giving me all kinds of food! I was so happy to eat well!" Haia said happily, almost bouncing up and down with happiness. "I swear you're so dumb that you can only be happy." Shynah said. "Hey! I'm not a downer like you! People actually like being around me! The villagers give me offerings because I make them feel safe with my cheer!" Haia yelled. "Being overly cheerful is annoying!" Shynah yelled back. "Can you two just quit?" Jikai sighed, putting his palm to his forehead. "Yes, please just shut up." Tetsuo said. "You shut up!" Shynah yelled at Tetsuo. I sighed, and I kept walking. Jikai, Haia, Kanaru, and Unkai followed after me. "Hey! Wait up!" Tetsuo shouted, running up to us. Shynah ran after us as well, but she caught up way faster. We all kept walking, and Haia began to do tricks. She did flips in the air, walked on her hands, and did cartwheels along the path we walked. "Show off." Tetsuo said jokingly. "I'd like to see you do better." Haia challenged, grinning. Tetsuo narrowed his eyes at her, and Haia giggled. "That's right!" Haia said, getting into a power stance and smiling. "Oh, quiet! We're two different types of demons!" Tetsuo said, pointing at her accusingly. "That's not my fault!" Haia said, giggling and bumping her hip against Tetsuo's hip. I rolled my eyes, and we all kept walking. Soon, the sun began to set. I groaned, and the others turned to me. "Is it time to start heading home?" Jikai asked. "Yeah, they say they want me home by my bedtime, but they mean they want me home by the twins' bedtime." I said. "Your family is so controlling with you." Unkai said, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, but the younger ones can do whatever the hell they want." I said, sighing. "Well, Shy, Hai, we're gonna go. We'll see you guys soon." Kanaru said. "Aw, that sucks. I guess we'll see you guys another day. Goodbye!" Haia said, and she quickly hugged Tetsuo. I could tell he was blushing, and he hugged her back. "See ya, Haia." Tetsuo said. The rest of us giggled, and then we began to walk back to the dens. We got to the dens, and Ayame greeted all of us with a hug. "Welcome back, my babies." Ayame said. "Are you alright to go home?" Jikai asked me. "Yeah, I'm good." I said. "I can walk you halfway. It's safer to have an escort, especially at night." Koga said. "Do you even remember where the village is?" Ayame asked. "Yes, I do." Koga said. "Well, I guess you can escort her then. Be careful, both of you." Ayame said, kissing Koga and then kissing my cheek. "Bye, guys." I told the boys. "See you soon, Kairen." Jikai said, and he hugged me. Koga and I began walking, and I fiddled with my necklace. "So, how's life back in the village been?" Koga asked. "Shitty." I said. "How so?" Koga asked. "Mom and dad are focused on everything except me. They can't spare me even one glance unless I somehow piss them off." I said, sighing. "Sometimes I wish you were my daughter. You'd be happier. We all take care of each other. The pack sticks together, and I truly wish you could be part of it." Koga said. "I wish so, too. You are a good dad to your sons, and a good husband to Ayame. My dad loves my mom, but they somehow don't feel love towards their oldest." I said. "Don't worry, kid. They'll realize that you still need love, and they'll give it to you. When you turn eighteen, I promise we'll make room for you in the den. You can stay with us." Koga said. "Well, I'll probably take you up on that offer. Sesshomaru did say that I was welcome to stay with his family once I turn eighteen, but I'm not sure which deal is better." I said, grinning. "You have to choose what's best for you, so I won't be sour if you choose to live with Sesshomaru. None of us will be because we'll understand. Every single one of us in the pack knows and cares about you, Kairen. Don't ever be afraid to ask to join us." Koga said, and I smiled. "Thank you, Koga." I said. After a while, Koga stopped. "Well, this is halfway. I'll be seeing you soon, kid. I hope you sleep well, and have a good while before you come back again." Koga said, touching my shoulder. "Thank you for walking me here, Koga." I said, and then I hugged him. Koga hugged back, and he chuckled. "You're good, Kairen. You'd fit in with us so well. I'm glad you're there to keep my sons in line. Without the promise of getting to see you, they'd be true demons." Koga said, laughing. "Glad I can help." I said, chuckling. "See ya soon." Koga said. "See ya." I said, and we both walked our separate ways. I walked over to the nearest pond, and I undressed. I got in, and I sank my whole body underneath the cool water. I laid there, staring up at the moon and stars. It was beautiful. I rose up above the water, shivering. I sighed, and submerged myself once again, but for longer. I swam around a bit as well. Soon, I was finished. I shook myself mostly dry, and then I redressed myself. I walked to my home, and I met my father's amber gaze. "Welcome back." my dad said. "Hi." I said. "You got back just before your bedtime. You're getting too close to the edge, Kairen." my dad said. I bit back my tongue, and I just walked over to my mat. I changed out of my clothes and into my sleepwear, which was a simple, slightly loose white kimono. The fabric was slightly thick, so I'd be warm. My dad laid next to my mom without even saying goodnight to me, and I sighed softly. I'm a little tired anyway, so I guess it's good to fall asleep. I closed my eyes, and eventually drifted off into a calm, quiet sleep.
A/N: My god, I've been working on this for a while. It's not the longest of chapters, but it's something. I hope you enjoy, really! Also, I must note that the art is supposed to resemble Kairen, but it's not mine. I had an image in my head, and that picture was the most accurate thing I could find. I don't know the original artist, but if someone could tell me, I'll credit them!
