Rosemarie slept through the rest of the day until she heard her door open.
"Rosie it's dinner time." Martin whispered into her ear.
When Rosemarie did not respond he poked her lightly in her tummy which caused her body to jerk back instantly.
"Rosie what happened?" Martin said in a panic.
Without giving her time to explain he removed her blanked from her body and unbuttoned the first few buttons revealing eddies amazing bandage work.
"What the hell! Rosie who did this?" Martins voice was fearful and murderous.
"No one..."
"ROSEMARIE LANE IF YOU DO NOT TELL ME I WILL KEEP YOU LOCKED IN THIS HOUSE UNTL YOU ARE THIRTY!" Martin shrieked.
"Officer bowers son and the hockstetters boy..." Rosemarie whispered.
Martins eyes darkened at the name of those two boys. Martin knew bowers would probably shoot him on sight if he saw him walking on his property.
"We are going to the police station. And the hospital!" Martin said trying to sound as calm as possible.
He buttoned rosemaries night gown and then slipped some shoes onto her feet. He then put a warm coat onto her then carefully lifted her up into his arms then carried her to his car.
The ride to the police station was horrifying for Rosemarie. She didn't like Officer Bowers. He was just scary as Henry in her opinion. She really just wanted to pretend that today didn't happen.
The two pulled into the police station parking lot. Rosemarie clung to her brothers side as they walked into the station.
"Where is Officer Bowers?" Martin said to the woman at the desk.
She didn't respond. She just picked up the phone.
"Bowers we have a young man and a little lady here to speak to ya."
And like that Satan himself emerged from the door leading to the back office.
Officer bowers looked at Martin and his little sister.
"What do y'all... FOLKS want." He said with some hidden malice.
"Your son and the hockstetter boy almost killed my little sister. I understand that you and your boy share some views about... certain things but his actions are! They are! Horrific!" Martin said in a whisper yelling voice.
"Boys will be boys. Maybe your sister here needs cover up more. I see her walking down the streets in those dresses." Officer bowers laughed a bit at his own words.
"She is always dressed appropriately and even if she wasn't doesn't excuse those boys actions." Martin growled.
"You honestly think I care about the concerns of a-"
"OF A WHAT, OFFICER... you don't care for the opinion of a concerned citizen of Derry? Or does it run much more deeper than that?" Martin said as the rest of the people in the station watched closely.
Their were rumors of Officer Bowers being an ex clan member but it was never proven. Officer bowers usually does a better job at keeping his racism to himself but tonight he almost slipped up and it's all because he-
"You smell like alcohol Officer." Martin continued.
"Is their a competent officer here willing to look at my little Rosie's wounds and still somehow come to the conclusion that a baby blue dress is the cause of it?" Martin said loudly.
Another officer walked up to Martin.
"I am Officer James Arlin. I will handle you and your sister sir. Officer bowers sir, you should go home and rest... your obviously exhausted from work." Officer Arlin said trying to defuse the situation.
After taking the frightened Rosemarie and her livid brother to the stations nurse they had no choice but to make a report and confront officer bowers and the hockstetter family about their boys. The hockstetter family wasn't even surprised when confronted and Officer Bowers decided to use his position as a enforcer of the law to sweep most of what he could under the rug.
Later that night Rosemarie and her brother Martin made a quick stop by the pharmacy to get cleaner medical supplies.
"Their gonna have it out for me more Marty...." Rosemarie whispered as the pulled into their driveway.
"It won't matter because as of right now you are on lockdown. No more going out to read. You can read here at home. No more going out to the library! We have books here! You are staying home for the rest of summer and i might even consider homeschooling you like the Hanlon boy from the meat packer family!" Martin said as his voice rose.
Rosemarie didn't argue. She knew she'd sneak off to the quarry. And she also knew that her brother can't stop her from doing stuff.
