"Yata what happened?" Izumo asked as he made his way upstairs to get the first aid kit.
"I ran into that damn monkey," Yata huffed as he sat down next to Mikoto.
"Why are you fighting monkeys?" Sage questioned, in hopes to at least get a smile out of the fuming boy, which worked. Yata let out a small chuckle before explaining that he was talking about a guy named Fushimi who was once a member of HOMRA who had left to join Scepter 4.
"That damn traitor," Yata continued as Izumo came back downstairs with the first aid kit.
"I don't know why we-" Izumo started but was cut off by Anna.
"Let Sage handle this," she smiled up at her sister, "Show them what you can do sister."
Sage nodded as she walked over and kneeled in front of Yata, his eyebrows frowning as he gave her a questioning look.
It would be crazy to say Sage wasn't a little nervous, she's never actually healed someone before. What if she hurt him more? Noticeably nervous with a drop of sweat falling down her cheek she looked back up at her younger sister.
"Anna what if I can't do it?" Sage voice shook as her eye shot back and forth between her sister and the injured boy.
"I know you can, just believe in yourself." Anna said gently with a small smile.
Sage nodded and took a deep breath, "Are you ready Yata?"
"Um, I-I, huh," Yata stuttered, the anger leaving his body as he finally grasped what was happening. Sage was kneeling on the floor in between his legs, her teal eyes staring at Yata through her bangs. He felt very overwhelmed with her so close to him. His face began to heat up as he darted his eyes to the ground.
"Yata just spit it out," Izumo laughed watching the boy look everywhere expect at the girl in front of him.
"Alright, give me your hand," Sage said holding out her right hand. After a second of hesitation Yata put his hand in hers.
Sage closed her eyes and she used her energy to focus on Yata's injured areas. The bruise forming around his left eye, a stab wound in his left shoulder, several scraps scattered across his body, and a cracked rib. Once Sage pinpointed where the cracked rib was, she lifted her free hand and rested it on Yata's chest causing the boys face to turn a deeper red.
The blush began to disappear as his attention was brought to his shoulder where there was an open wound. He watched at it began to slowly close on its own, once the wound had closed, he noticed his chest was no longer in pain and he could properly breath again. Once Yata was completely healed Sage stood back up and gave him room to examine his body. His eyes lit up in amazement as he realized there was not a single bruise to be found. He felt brand new.
"How did you do this?" He asked while staring at the spot where the knife had been, "There isn't even a scar!"
"I can heal people," Sage shrugged, "it's nothing to fancy."
"Are you kidding me this is fucking cool! Thank you, Sage," Yata said as he smiled at the now blushing Sage. She gave him a gentle smile in return as they both looked everywhere except at each other.
"That's definitely a special talent indeed," Mikoto smiled at Sage causing her to look up at him before turning to Yata, "this does not mean you can go around picking fights, Sage is not your personal first aid kit."
"Thanks Mikoto, I love being compared to animated objects," Sage giggled as she rolled her eyes.
Mikoto pat the top of her head as he stood up, "it's getting late, Yata Sage will be staying in the room with you."
"Wait but, I- she," the poor boy tried to stutter out. He can't share his room with a girl.
"Don't argue Yata, since you are her protector, she needs to stay close to you," Mikoto sighed waving his hand at the boy whose face was now completely red at the thought of a girl sleeping in the same room as him.
"Don't worry Misaki, Sage doesn't bite," Anna laughed as she ran to catch up with the red King.
"Don't worry. I can sleep on the couch," Sage smiled.
That seemed to kick Yata out of whatever trace he was in. Shaking his head, he walked up the stairs, trying to hide his flushed face. After wishing Izumo a farewell Sage followed close behind taking in the scenery, or lack of per say. The walls looked run down and with no decoration. Nothing like the bar area, which can be expected. The bar is meant to attract customers, upstairs was for HOMRA members only.
"This is, uh, m-me," Yata mumbled as he opened the door. Sage followed him in and looked around.
There was only one word to describe how the room looked, basic. The walls were bare except a clock and a TV hanging above a dress. In front of the dresser was a black leather couch and right behind that was a bed with a black comforter. There were clothes laying everywhere with a few empty water bottles scattered around.
I'm gonna have to fix this mess if I will be sleeping here, Sage though to herself with a small giggle.
Sage continued to follow Yata as he showed her where everything was, finally stopping at the door that was cross from the entrance, "This is the bathroom, there is a spare toothbrush in the cabinet if you need." Yata mumbled.
"Thanks, Yata, I'm just going to take a quick shower."
Sage closed the door behind Yata as he left to get everything set up.
To hell I'm going to let a girl as beautiful as her sleep on this beat up couch Yata thought to himself as he grabbed a pillow and small blanket for himself and throw it on the couch. He began to pick up a little as well, he could allow Sage to sleep in such a mess. Once he was done moving all his dirty clothes into one pile he sat down on the couch. He channel surfed until he landed on Cartoon Network, "fuck yeah an Adventure Time marathon." Yata said to himself.
Once Sage was done getting ready for bed, she quietly joined Yata who was to focused on what was on the TV to notice Sage leave the bathroom.
"Oh, I love Adventure Time," she said causing Yata to jump.
"Don't sneak up on me like that!" Yata half yelled before realizing what Sage was wearing. She had a plain orange tank top on, very short black shorts, and orange socks that went midthigh. Yata quickly looked back at the TV his face slightly red.
"Y-yeah, uh, they have um a marathon," Yata quickly said trying to avoid eye contact.
Sage sat down next to Yata making sure to not invade his personal space, she found him flustered cute, but she didn't want to make him overly uncomfortable. They sat wand watched a few episodes in a comfortable silence before Sage decided to speak.
"Yata?" she whispered.
"Uh y-yeah?"
"Do you think it was a good idea for me to join HOMRA? I know Anna feels very confident in me being here and I trust her abilities very well, but do you think it's a good idea? I just don't want to intrude nor do I want to hold you back," Sage looked down at her hands while she fiddled with her thumbs. Yata could tell that she was nervous for a reason unknown to him, he took a deep breath and grabbed her hand in hopes to comfort her. Sage looked up at him a small blush spread across both of their faces.
"Like you said Anna knows what she is doing, she would never have you here if she didn't trust in your abilities as well. Plus, the HOMRA flame accepted you. There isn't any bigger sign that would will fit in just fine," Yata smiled down at the girl. The tension leaving her body as she laid her head on Yata's shoulder.
"Thank you Yata."
"Oh, uh, y-yeah," Yata's blush deepened as Sage put her focus on the TV.
They continued to watch Adventure Time before they both accidently fell asleep and for the first time in years Sage had a dreamless sleep. She finally felt safe, she would no longer be hurt for who she is.
