Aspenkit let out a grumble when she was prodded on her shoulder. She blinked herself awake, rolling over to meet Parsely's emerald eyes. They reminded her of the deep green pines back home, unlike Aloekit's cactus green eagle eyes.
Parsley's siamese features gave her face a peculiar mask look, while she had little black feet and ankles. "Up, up, up. We must find your sister, yes?" Parsley nudged the ginger she-kit to her paws and pushed her out of the small den, into the forest.
Outside the clans' territory was rich woodland, that Skystar was constantly expanding onto, for more territory. Although, Aspenkit had heard from Pearstride talking with Smokestar that rogues like Parsley would fight hard to keep their land.
It made sense, water was the only thing surrounding the territories, with High Camp mounted in part of the woodland, before it shifted to pine trees for Pine Camp, and then Mountain Pass Camp, that had the dangerous mountains and avalanche country. Then the rest of the woodland near High Camp along with the beach belonged to the rogues.
Aspenkit nodded and ducked to get out the small entrance, the brambles scraping her tail as she came out. The kit sniffed the air as dried leaves crunched under her pawsteps as golden, amber, and scarlet leaves fell around the two cats like snow.
"So, which camp do you come from?" Parsley rumbled, weaving between oaks and birches toward the way Aspenkit had come from, her pawsteps trotting delicately through the wilting fronds of fern and gorse.
"Pine Camp," Aspenkit mewed, prancing after Parsley before falling into a stride beside the she-cat.
"Oh, dear. Why would your sister be in High Camp? Did you get separated? I heard Skystar stole kits occasionally." Parsley murmured with sympathy, swirling her tail like a ribbon of fur as she ducked under a willow branch.
Aspenkit ducked as well, flattening her ears to avoid being poked by the twigs that were only barely holding onto the bough. "Yeah! Skystar stole her from Pine Camp and no one's tried to get her back. It isn't fair!" Aspenkit huffed, her fur ruffling in irritation.
Parsley nodded slowly, her neck muscles rippling as she flowed through the dense forest. "That doesn't sound very nice. Everyone is important, stealing a kit could start fights. After all, what's the point of taking a kit if Pine Camp just takes it back? If no one does anything, Skystar will keep pushing you around." The siamese shook her head before her pine needle green gaze landed on Aspenkit. "What's your plan of rescuing her?" she mewed gently, her eyes brimming with empathy.
Aspenkit opened her jaws, before closing them. Hmmm. She hadn't thought of this. Maybe she could sneak in? No, there must be guards watching Aloekit. She would threaten them! Yes! She'd go up to Skystar and tell him if he didn't give Aloekit back that she'd attack him. Aspenkit was about apprentice age and Skystar was weak.
Parsley nodded as Aspenkit told the rogue her plan. "Good idea- Hold on one second." Parsley turned to the left and Aspenkit jumped back. There was another cat there!
The cat looked identical to Parsley, except her eyes were blue like diamonds as she stared at Parsley and Aspenkit. Her paws were crossed as she contemplated the two.
Parsley trotted up to her lookalike and whispered a few words in her ear, whipping her glance back to Aspenkit a few times as she spoke.
Aspenkit's pelt prickled as she squinted in confusion. She blinked as Parsley strode back to her and her twin disappeared back into the woodland. "Who was that?" She meowed, falling back into step with Parsley as they continued walking.
"Just another rogue. She was warning me that the fish at the beach brought sickness if eaten." Parsley shrugged her shoulders, quickening her step.
