You need me, there ain't no leaving me behindNever, no, no, just want outta here, yeah
Once I'm gone, ain't no going back
Jaylah
It was exactly 4:56 pm. Me, Bri, Deja and Kel had just got into a car we rented a few days ago. It was dead silent. Brianna sat in the driver's seat, I sat in the passenger's seat while Deja and Kel sat in the back.
Bri started the engine and pulled out of my driveway. I looked back toward our house facing the fact that it might've been the last time I saw it. I sighed and closed my eyes, laying my head against the window. The ride was gonna be 2 and a half hours.
*flashback*
"Yo, so this our shit baby?" He wrapped his arms around me. I looked around at the empty modern space. I looked toward the kitchen, the stairs, and windows. I kissed and hugged him.
"Yeah, finally. Our own home Jahaan." He picked me up and kissed all over my face making me laugh.
"Boy gone " I jumped out his arms and layed on the floor. I looked up and he was looking at me like I was crazy.
"Niggas tired. The beds don't get delivered till tommorow" I shrugged
"New house flex?" He layed next to me and pulled me closer to him
"Yeah, plus back problems from this hard ass floor." He busted out in laughter.
*end of flashback*
I smiled at the memory opened my eyes and looked back on the road. I looked in the rearview mirror and saw Deja sleeping on Kel, him sleeping as well.
*flashback*
"Ain't nobody ever gon like you Jaylah, look at you" The girls pointed and laughed at me. We were in the hallway and everyone turned their heads toward me. I was in 9th grade. I felt my cheeks get hot and I was stuck in place.
"What the fuck is so funny?" A light skin girl with beautiful skin walked in front of me as if she were protecting me. "You think it's aight to make fun of people for no reason? What if somebody made fun of those ugly ass braids you put in yo head huh?" The girl pointed to the ones in front of us, who were just recently torturing me, were now dead silent.
"All y'all need to move around. Ain't shit to see here." A bunch of people smacked their lips and walked off. The girls still stood there staring us down.
"Yo I know she not talking to her fucking self." I heard a deeper voice behind me, I turned to see a brown skin boy. He walked behind the light skin girl grabbing her waist.
"Aint shit to see, gon' bout ya business" He shooed the girls away and they finally left. They both turned to me, with small smiles on their faces. I stood there surprised, no one had ever taken up for me like that. The girl held out her hand.
"I'm Deja" She smiled showing all her teeth. I grabbed her hand and shook it.
"Jaylah." I gave her a small smile.
"Wassup Jaylah, I'm Kel" The boy smiled brightly at me and held up his fist for me to bump, which I did.
"You can hang with us now jaylah" Deja told me.
*end of flashback*
I chuckled and shook my head, finally, I looked over to Brianna. I couldn't remember a day I wasn't with the girl. So many memories flooded my mind of me and her, I felt my eyes start to water. I can remember the day I first met her, we were in the 3rd grade. She sat at my table along with three other girls. One of the girls would always make fun of her hair.
*Flashback*
"You know you got some really ugly hair Brianna" the girl looked at her and chuckled. "I don't know how her momma does it every day. It's so nappy." she started to laugh louder and point in Brianna's direction.
Brianna cut her eyes at the girl. "You just mad because I got more hair than you, stupid" The girls laughing immediately stopped making me and the other girls snicker. "and don't worry about how my momma does my hair, just know she gets it done and it looks better than yours." Brianna rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. The girl ran from the table crying. She looked at me and smiled brightly. "I'm Brianna but you can call me Bri, Let's be friends."
The rest was history, we had been inseparable ever since.
*end of flashback*
I looked forward to the road, going over the plan in my brain over and over again. We couldn't fuck this up. I remembered Bri telling me Deja and Kel knew inmates in the prison. I whispered to her so I wouldn't wake up Deja and Kel.
"What inmates do they know at stoneward?" I looked over at her.
"Hell if I know, they just said they had connects."She shrugged. "Hey Dummies!" she screamed making Kel jump so hard he hit his head. "Girl what the hell" Deja groaned.
"Who y'all know up in stoneward?" Bri questioned.
"Some niggas I met while hooping a while ago, names Davon and Hendrix. Got pretty close with em. They got locked over some stupid shit though, I hadn't talked to em after that but I heard they were serving their time at stoneward."
Bri nodded her head. I wonder if Jahaan crossed paths with these two. I wonder how he was feeling right now.
There was no backing out now, this whole fucking situation was a hit or miss.
"Bri how much time we got left?" I rubbed my eyes and looked up to a grey building.
It read "Stoneward Correctional Institution"
