Katsuki pushed open the classroom door with an annoyed huff; letting his frustrations out on the innocent door as it flew back against the wall's opening with fearsome force. He stood in the doorway of his classroom an hour and a half earlier than he would normally arrive due to his pride that got the best of him as he stormed out of his house only fifteen minutes earlier after getting into a particularly heated argument with his mother. He didn't have it in him to turn his tail and crawl back home after putting on such a show so here he was entering the classroom, the sun hardly peaked across the horizon, out of breath, and annoyed. By no right should he have to face any more injustice during this hellish morning, but sure enough, his crimson eyes searched the room to ultimately rest on a mop of grenette hair.
The dusty blonde clenched his teeth about ready to contort before greenette hair shifted to reveal a pair of green eyes that seemed far too bright contrasted against the deep amber shade of the classroom only lit from the slowly rising sun in the distance. He took note of the other boy's tear-stained cheeks and familiar frail frame and tried to muster forced annoyance towards the sight but it was simply beautiful. "Deku." Harsh words cut through the silence like a knife aiming for the kill, but the tear-stained boy raised his brow and dropped his jaw in what could only be identified as shock.
"Kacchan?" The small whispered seemed to fill the room and encase Katsuki who was still standing in the doorway that connects the classroom and hallway. It seemed as if Deku was fighting against urges as unknown thoughts flickered through his green gaze and his muscles tensed as if holding him back from jumping forward into the dusty blonde's arms.
Katsuki shook his head as an attempt to shake himself free of the starry green eyes that had encaptured him in a deeply soft gaze before making confident strides into the room and towards his assigned seat. He sat a desk forward and to the left of Midoriya so he had to manage to walk past him without making eye contact with the boy who seemed uncharacteristically longing for interaction with him. After he swung back his chair to flop into it and throw his feet onto his desk an ear-piercing silence fell between them. While maybe once the two had been close things between them since late elementary school had been nothing but confusing and tense, he wasn't one for emotional searching but even he knew the relationship he once had with this deku was broken. With this being said the air between them at the moment should have been a lot tenser and unwelcomed than it was currently, it was as if the boy wasn't there at all. At the thought of how lacking the room felt in another's presence, he shifted in his chair to throw a glance over his shoulder to the boy. Bright green eyes met his own without a moment's hesitation and seemed to reach forward helplessly and scream to him. The silence became unbearably loud as helpless green eyes raked and screamed for interaction, what's with that look!? That's not a look Deku had given him before, at least not one he could ever remember. When did this nerd make eye contact with him at all? "What in the name of fuck are you doing here, Deku?" Katsuki spit out breathlessly hoping his voice would tear the screaming eyes away from his own gaze. Why couldn't he look away? He hated this but wanted to keep his gaze locked on his own for fear that if he looked away the boy would disappear and the screaming gaze would stop calling his name.
The greenette let a soft smile grace his lips before he gently and soundlessly shifted in his seat. His mouth opened to form a reply but bared clenched teeth and winced out of what seemed to be fear to answer. The display called a 'tsk' from Katsuki as he grudgingly shifted in his seat to face towards the board. "I didn't know where else to go." The frail freckled boy whispered just loud enough for it to reach Katsuki's ear.
The dusty blonde glanced over his shoulder again to trace his eyes over the hopeless deku sitting behind him. Why did he seem so distant? He was so close, what was wrong? All questions flooding his head that fought to escape his mouth but were held back by clenched teeth and an annoyed furrowed brow. He was supposed to hate this boy, why did he care? Why did his heart long for his painful green eyes, why did he want to meet the soundless screams that were calling his name from the Greenette's gaze?
"Why go anywhere? Just stay in bed, damn nerd." the Blonde tsked matter-of-factly as he leaned further back in his chair. His response was given a soulless chuckle that seemed weighted by painful memories and sleepless nights. "You always were a Deku." He mused in a whisper hardly loud enough for Midoriya to hear. There was no bite behind his words, rather, they came as a soft stream to the ears of the freckled boy. The greenette smiled lightly before scooching forward in his chair and leaning closer over his desk before addressing the blonde.
"Why are you here Kacchan?" He tried to tease, something he hadn't been known to do towards the other boy. In Deku's leaned forward position and his kicked back state he was able to meet the other's eyes again before rolling his own. He really had some nerve questioning him, he was just lucky he was still put out from his morning argument or the other would be flat on the ground after that statement.
"A little bird told me I could find a worm." He joked half-heartedly before raising his hand upwards as if he was reaching towards something past the ceiling of the classroom. A surprisingly comfortable silence fell between them after that and no more words were shared. He sat in the calmness that slowly flowed over him like a cool stream in summer.
He wasn't sure when he had fallen asleep but sure enough, he was awoken by the sound of the bell that addressed the starting of the day. He tried not to be embarrassed by the fact that all of his peers had caught him in a vulnerable state of rest and his surprise that he had fallen asleep in Deku's company seemed to help him keep his mind off his embarrassment. At the mention of Deku within his thoughts, he turned in his chair and sure enough met the eyes of the greenette who smiled at him without skipping a beat. He wasn't sure of the cause, but he had felt a lot warmer as he turned back to face the sensei as he started class.
Class ended as soon as it had started and he took his time gathering his things, not looking forward to the nagging awaiting him at home, until it was just him and the greenette sitting in the dark amber lit classroom alone. He looked over the freckled boy who was staring forward through cloudy lidded eyes. Katsuki rolled his eyes at the boy who hadn't made any moves to leave before he dropped a book on his desk. The action seemed to snap the other out of his daze as he snapped his neck to look up at him with a surprised gaze. "Eyes up shitnerd." He grumbled, gathering his book off of the other's desk before making a move towards the door.
"K-kacchan!" A voice called after him. Katsuki turned to look at the greenette who he hadn't heard get up let alone walk over to him. He stared down at the bright green eyes that sparkled like stars compared to the darkness that was smoothly settling over the classroom. Katsuki raised a brow feeling a bit too put out to offer any sort of response. "A-ah... Do you- uhm." He shuffled then looked to his right before looking back up at the blonde who seemed clueless. "You haven't heard anything about me?" He asked quietly.
Katsuki clicked his tongue before cocking his head in annoyance. "You're messed up in the head, Deku. Hear what?" He grumbled, he was way too tired for these mind games.
"Ah, nevermind then!" He hustled waving his hands in front of him to brush away the question he had asked earlier. He seemed to want to move on way too quickly as he took a few good paces backward towards the chalkboard then turned himself towards the window where he was better lit up by the amber glow of the setting sun in the distance. "It's not important." He said in a whisper, staring out the window with a saddened smile.
If Katsuki had the capacity to care any more than answering his question then maybe he would have stayed and pressed on, but at his current emotional capacity it was all he could do to turn away with a huff and push past the exit of the classroom to begin his trip home to get nagged at by his monster hag mother. He couldn't wait.
