On a continent belonging to the name of Algäesia was a vast range of mountains, curving like the spine of a great beast along the western coast, hence its name.
The Spine.
Weeks of travel through the mountains could put one only partway through their expanse, due to the overgrown forests and Urgal tribes inhabiting its length.
It was in this place of cold and fear that a single ray of sun shown down upon a sleeping beast, arousing it from its great slumber. With leathery wings slowed from age, it made its way above the dense trees and glided for a time before reaching the liquid crystal lake of Fläm.
The beast dropped to the ground at none too fast a pace, startling the deer that had been previously drinking with its enormous size and wicked looking maw and claw. As the beast bent to drink, she felt the stone-like egg nestled in her stomach tumble and roll. She pitched forward from shock, but recovered in time to save herself from the water, her claws ripping the silt to shreds.
Hours later, she was back in the nesting ground she had so meticulously picked out, watching as the egg, no larger than an apple, sat perfectly still and silent. The last streaks of day barely cleared the trees, but for a moment, the inside of the egg was visible.
Deep within its rock-like encasement, the beast caught a glimpse of the formed wings, and a small tail lashing through the thick, syrupy liquid filling the egg.
The beast allowed her eyelids to slowly drop, know tomorrow, she would be alone again, her fragile child seized by the Riders.
Her little white prince.

Sorry this is so short, this is just a small introduction!
I will do my best to post the first actual chapter soon.
I 10/10 recommend that you read Christopher Paolini's Inheritance series. It's possible to read this without them, but you should really still read them, if not only because it is an amazing series.
