"I'm coming! Damn."

You're hopping to pull your sweats up your legs and over your thighs as you hastily make your way towards the front door, the incessant knocking startling you out of your deep sleep. It's late, almost 3AM, and you're incredibly annoyed that someone has the audacity to interrupt you from your beauty sleep.

You swing the door open, ready to tell off whoever's knocking, until you take in the sight of your best friend—her shivering body completely soaked from the rain, tears streaming down her face as her watery brown eyes stare back at you.

Without question, you pull her inside, your heart silently breaking when she immediately collapses against you, her arms tight around your neck as she lets out the loudest, most heart wrenching sob.

"It's okay, Mani, I've got you." You softly say as you guide her into your bedroom and towards the bathroom. Because she refuses to let go of you, you have to stop halfway to lift her into your arms and carry her the rest of the way to the shower.

Your blue graphic tee has a large tear stain on the shoulder when you set her bare feet on the tile floor, but you don't mind. She's quiet now, but her eyes are still glossy with unshed tears as you rid her of her soggy clothes. Once she's free of them, you reach up to wipe her stained cheeks before moving to turn on the shower, making sure it's not too hot for her.

You leave her, setting a change of clothes on your bed for when she's done. You take her soggy clothes and put them in the washer, then go to the kitchen to make two mugs of hot chocolate.

When you return moments later, you see Normani's small frame sitting on your king sized mattress, her legs crossed underneath her. She still looks upset, but much more put together now as opposed to twenty minutes ago.

She shakes her head in refusal when you offer her the mug of hot chocolate, her voice soft and broken when she says: "I need you right now, not the drink."

So you set the mugs aside on your nightstand and join her in your bed, wrapping your arms around her when she moves to close the distance, pulling her against your chest as you both lie down.

"What'd he do this time?"

You feel her sigh shakily against your neck. "The same girl he cheated on me with—I found them sleeping together in our bed when I got home from work."

The anger bubbles up in you immediately at those words, but subside a little when you feel Normani wrap her arm tighter around your frame.

"I know what you're thinking, Y/N. Don't. I don't want you to end up in jail over me."

"I'll gladly serve time knowing that I made him physically feel at least half of the mental pain that he's putting you through."

When she doesn't immediately respond, you turn your head towards her to see her already gazing up at you, the tiniest smile adorning her face.

"What?"

"Nothing, I just feel lucky to have you."

"You are."

Normani playfully rolls her eyes as you grin, groaning in pain when she swats at your stomach a little too forcefully. She doesn't apologize verbally, but leans to kiss your cheek as a silent apology.

You lie there in silence for awhile, the rumblings of a television show the only sound in the room. You can feel yourself slowly succumbing into slumber, until Normani's voice brings you back.

"I'm gonna leave him, Y/N."

From the unsure tone of voice, and from the previous times she's said the same sentence in your presence, you already know it's a lie. But all you do is nod, your eyes still closed as the only word that slips past your lips is:

"Okay."
