New Boy - Pt.2

As I left the house, yelling bye to my mum, I started to hum along to the music playing from my battered phone. Standing by the towering metal post as the bus pulled up, I saw that it was the regular people on the bus... no new boy.

DANIEL'S POV

My mum woke me up this morning by shouting up the stairs. I started to roll over, before realising that it was my first day at school and instead wearily peeling the covers off of me and standing up. It never sank in that this would be my new neighbourhood, new school and - hopefully - new friends until I was in my closet deciding what to wear. At high school, first impressions are a huge deal, this was mostly based on your appearance, which is why the 'pretty' or 'hot' people were often popular. I have never agreed with this social policy, because it means they get cocky and horrible, while the genuinely kind people are left to feel insecure about themselves. Eventually after many attempts, resulting in clothes strewn across the floor and almost half a dozen hair gels scattered across a small table in front of the mirror, I came up with this (media box image)

I have spoken to mum and dad about it and they said for the rest of the year I would have to take the bus to school, but for the first week they would drive me, because I havent passed my test yet.... or even started learning for that matter.

Stuffing my phone into my bag and grabbing a banana as I passed the kitchen, I ran out of the door and to the car, where my dad was already waiting and looking at me disapprovingly.

"Come on Dani, you're going to be late for your first day!"

I simply replied, "I know and don't call me Dani, dad", I didnt mean to come across as rude I was jsut very stressed and I think he realised, because the rest of the journey was sat in silence, the quiet whispering of the radio presenters humming in my ears.
