The Tales of Nina

CHAPTER 1

"Miss Eros, May I enter?"

"Yes Lilly, what can I help you with?" I raise my eyes to look at a timid looking Lilly. I remember, when I first interviewed Lilly as my assistant, I instantly made up my mind, I would not hire her. Yet it was something in her that day, that I knew despite her timid nature she will survive the harsh reality of Public Relations. And here she is now 3 years later.

"The spokesperson of Brandon Industries has urgently requested your presence.", raising my brow, I ask, "Requested my presence? This is not about the mining crisis that took place last month is it? Because if it is, we have already sorted it and we have the best team servicing him right now. I do not believe he needs me to interfere."

"I believe it was you who once said, men can be hierarchal and will not entertain anyone who is not in par with their position." Sometimes I wonder, if I did right by training Lilly. Four years ago, Lilly would not have smirked the way she did now.

Taking a sigh, "When can I accommodate him?"

Looking at a sleek tablet, which probably contains all my professional and personal details, Lily says, "Not until the 25th but that's in two weeks. It would be too late; however, I can push the internal team briefing to 2pm today and make space for exactly 23 minutes. Would that do?"

Turning back to the task at hand, I reply, "Yes please, but do remind him politely, only 23 minutes."

With that being said as Lilly walks off, I remind her, "Also please remind the Austin, do share all the details on the Brandon account before my call with the spokesperson."

"Already done, you will receive the details within the next 20 minutes, and I have already informed the team on the time changes for the internal briefing."

That's fast, "How did you know I would agree?"

"Nina, I have known you for 3 years now, you might have trained me, but I became friends with you. I know how to convince you plus no one can say no to me." With that signature smirk Lily walked out of the room.

To others, Lily might look like a nervous new jonnie but in this past few years, I have witnessed a tremendous change within her. She is a strong confident woman, who would not shy away from stating her opinions.

My phone ringing distracted me from state. Arthur flashed on screen, with a smile I answered his call, " I hope you know that we are meeting my parents tonight."

"How can I forget Arthur? I have been dreading the meeting for weeks." I reply, remembering the moment Arthur had first mentioned about his parents. Although we have been dating for 2 years, I haven't met his parents even once.

"Well like I told earlier sweetheart, my parents wont bite. And I will be there right next to you." I met Arthur when we were in college. Being my senior, we hit off immediately. Even though I have know him for almost 6 years. We only started dating 2 years ago. With Arthur, I do not have to put in efforts, we have always had a smooth relationship, wherein, we would understand each other without actually communicating. Yet, I am terrified to meet his parents! The feeling of something bad is going to happen is constantly nagging me.

"Yes I remember. That's the only reason I have agreed to meet them, but Art, I just can't let go of the fear! What if they don't like me?"

I walk towards the back of my room. The corner has become my safe place, it hides me from direct view of the office, so if anyone enters my room they will not be able to see me.

"Sweetheart, like we discussed last night and many before that! They will love you, no one can hate you. And even if they don't, I will always love you and stand by your side!"

Arthur's words didn't work on me like they used too, with a quick bye I return to my desk only to find someone sitting there. The reason why my dreams turn into nightmares in the next couple of months!

"Eva?" was all he said before everything went blank.
