Life is the bitch who slaps you across the face
With your favorite kinda pie
And then hands you a fork
Tells you to eat up with a smile on their face
And a challenge in their eyes
It'll be alright
Life is the tree waving behind the window
Tapping on the glass with sharp pointed nails
On a dark stormy night
And all the lights
All the lights shut off and the rain comes down
The rain comes down, pounding on the glass
It demands to be let in
But the glass stands strong
Puffs out it's soft billowing chest
And tells you
It'll be alright
Life is the wave that crashes into your legs
With your back turned
Eyes still closed from just standing back up
It's the seaweed that wraps around your ankle
A silent threat
But it's also the warm wet sand
The sand that can't quit cling to skin yet
It's just warm and wet and it feels nice
It doesn't hang on for dear life, as you
Walk back to your car
It let's go
It doesn't sting the back of your legs
Jumping on for a ride to forever live in your car
It'll be alright
Life is the fifteen foot cliff your mother takes you to when you're twelve
Dropping off into the shallows of six feet maybe
After an hour and a half of swimming
On floats across a man made lake
Trying not to think about the body's
The body's that lay lost somewhere below
Below where an old town still stands
It's the calm current with a dark secret
A dark secret everyone knows
A shared secret that still draws a crowed
It's the dam with warning signs so many ignore
It's the thousand foot rocky ledge
The watch-your-step-might-lose-a-leg drop off
That someone always attempts
But it's never worth the adrenaline
It's the littered wooden path you spent four hours cleaning
Feet and fingers bleeding
Because people sprinkled broken glass in with twigs and leaves
You didn't have gloves on and you were wearing flip-flops because this ones your mothers last minute idea of fun
It'll be alright
Life is the cold breeze of winter
When you're the only ones in and at the lake
And it feels so warm, almost hot
Not another soul in sight
It's getting back out with the cool air nipping at your skin
Refusing the offered towel
Because you wouldn't have it any other way
And you think this is what life is about
