Small Heath

The streets of Small Heath were dark, smoke  filled the air. Most of the houses were sleeping, but not all were tucked up in there beds. Not the young girl who lived at number 13 Watery Lane nor the young boy who lived at number 6 Watery Lane.

Amy Lee, was born of gypsy blood, and lived at 13 Watery Lane with her mother, father and 3 siblings. She was the eldest at the age of 14, her bestfriend John Shelby was 15 he lived at 6 Watery Lane with his aunt and 4 siblings.

The two had become bestfriends from birth, inseparable, always causing trouble.

"you can't catch me Shelby" I laughed as John chased me through the alleys.

"oh we will see darling, just you wait and see" John laughed back.

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, I thought I had the upper hand, I looked back to see if John was close by, but he had vanished into thin air. My face dropped with confusion. I went to turn around the corner by the alley when I was pushed up against the wall.

I went to scream, but met the eyes of John Shelby.

"told ya, I'd get you" John smirked.

I sighed in defeat "only cause you cheated" finishing with a laugh.

I watched as John's eyes were fixated on my face. What was he doing.

"whats wrong?" I asked concerned

"nothing.. Just wondering what it would be like?" John replied.

"wondering what it would be like too what?" I questioned him further.

He moved closer, pushing my body between the wall and his chest. My heart was beating fast, my mouth dry with anticipation.

"what it would be like to kiss you" John said stroking my cheek with his hand as his eyes concentrated on my lips. I let out gasp before replying.

"theres only one way to find out" I said looking deep into his eyes.

He leaned closer, until our lips brushed together. In one swift movement our lips came together, moving slowly at first. Then suddenly faster and with more hunger.

We pulled apart, John smirked as, I felt a smile creep across my face.

"I'd like to do that again" John whispered like a cheshire cat.

I fluttered my eyelashes "me too"

And with that our lips collided, my hands roaming his hair, his hands moving across my body bringing me closer to his body.

I had just had a make out session with ny bestfriend, I always knew me and John had a close relationship but I never thought we would be this close. Not that I was complaining. John was the kind of boy, you wanted to spend your life with, he treated me like a princess, not the gypsy girl that people looked at with disgust.

My father was a hard working man, I know being a Lee gave you a bad reputation, but he did what he could to provide for us. We lived in a house, when he married my mother, he promised her the world, and thats what he gave her.

We never complained about not having the luxury life, we were grateful for the life we had. Im just glad I didn't have to live with all ny aunts and uncles. The traveller life wasn't for me. Dont get me wrong, I loved the free and wild side of life.

"John, we should get home before someone notices were not there" I said breaking the kiss. He sighed and rested his forehead on mine.

"I wish we could be together always" John whispered. I smiled and thought about a life with John.

"I'm not going anywhere Shelby" I smirked.

Linking arms we strolled back to the street, John walked me to my door, giving me one last kiss before we both went our separate ways.

I snuck upstairs into my room, changing into my nightwear and climbing into my bed. I led and stared at the ceiling, the smile on my face growing. I had loved John for as long as I could remember.

John's older brothers were always commenting on mine and John's relationship. Arthur Jr the eldest and Tommy the second eldest considered me part of the family. Even their aunt Polly, looked at me as her daughter. Polly and my mother were best friends, they had been since they were just young girls.

I needed to go to sleep, I would be up early helping my mother around the house. And i couldn't wait to see John again.
