Kate just got home early from work and was already looking forward to spending some time with Donnie. Ever since she had finally agreed to marry him, their relationship has been better than ever.
But as she was taking off her coat, she suddenly heard some weird noise, coming from the bedroom. She opened the door and couldn't believe her eyes.
There was Donnie. With a woman. Very busy, as you could say.
Kate furiously pulled off her engagement ring and threw it right at Donnie's face.
"You bastard! You actually promised me that it wouldn't happen again! How could you?" And to that point, she couldn't hold back the tears anymore.
The blonde woman just laughed at her.
"You're finished? Don't got anymore things to say?", Donnie asked her in an, almost bored sounding tone.
Kate stormed out of the door and grabbed her bag, quickly got in the car and left.
She didn't think, she just drove. She didn't care where was going, she just wanted to get away from Donnie. From everything. After ten minutes of driving
she turned off the radio.
It took Kate another ten minutes to realize where she was going.
She wanted to turn around because she didn't want to disturb Daniel, and Lewicki wouldn't be happy about her bothering Daniel again, either.
But she just kept driving until she found herself in his driveway.
Almost automatically, she walked to the door.
It took her about five minutes to bring up enough courage to actually knock on the door, though.
Five seconds later, Daniel Pierce opened up the door. He looked quite confused.
"Good evening, Kate. I didn't actually expect you to show up here right now." He looked at her and invited her to come inside.
"Well, I'm sorry for bothering you." She looked at the floor.
"You're not bothering me", he said,"But are you sure that everything's alright? You don't actually look like it." He looked at her in concern.
She knew she would cry if she said anything, so she just nodded.
Daniel didn't seem to be convinced.
"Why don't you just sit on the couch, I'll make us some tea." He hurried to the kitchen and Kate sat on the couch, waiting for him to come back.
And that was when, for the second time that day, she couldn't hold back the tears anymore, so she just sat there, silently crying and hoping that Daniel wouldn't notice.
Of course it didn't work.
"Should be ready in a few, so tell me what's up?"
He sat beside her on the couch.
Kate shrugged. "I-, Donnie. He-", was all she could say.
"Kate what- Oh god, no. Please don't cry, hun." He hugged her. "Tell me what happened, you'll feel better, I promise."
She looked him in the eyes and took a deep breath.
"Well I, I came home early from work this evening and I was already looking foward to seeing Donnie again. But then I heard a noise, coming from the bedroom and went to look. That's when I saw him. With another woman and I-, I just-"
She started crying again.
"I'm gonna kill this pig", Daniel said angrily and jumped up from the couch.
"Hey Daniel! Where are you going?"
Kate looked worried.
"Off to kill a pig", was all he said.
He wanted to leave but Kate quickly grabbed his hand and spun him around.
"Nope. You don't. Just stay here with me, okay?"
He sighed and sat back on the couch.
"I'm sorry that this happened again, Kate."
He looked her in the eyes.
"Nah, actually I guess it's my own fault", Kate said quietly.
"Explain that", Daniel said confused.
"Well, as you know, I spend most of my time working. And that's why I don't have much time for him."
"Hey, Kate, listen. This is not your fault. You understand? If he would have had a problem with your job, he would've talked about it with you. Get that? It's his own decision and if he wants to lose you again, he's pretty dumb in my opinion. But it's not your fault."
She smiled at him. "Thanks, Daniel. I guess you're right."
"Well it happens." He grinned and she laughed.
"Oh, shit, it's already midnight, I should go." She hurried to the door.
"Hey Kate!",he followed her,"Where do you wanna go? Going back to your apartment is not the best idea, I guess."
"Uhm-, some hotel, maybe."
"No, no. You wait." He pulled her back inside.
"I have a guestroom, you know." He smiled.
"Thanks so much, Daniel." She hugged him.

Later that night, Kate had finally fallen asleep, she woke up by the sound of someone talking. At first she thought that it was just Daniel hallucinating, but then the talking got louder.
She got up and put on her cardigan.
Quietly, she walked over to Daniel's room and opened the door carefully.
She walked over to the bed and tried to wake him up.
She finally succeeded and he looked at her in shock.
"Wh-, What's up?", he asked her.
"I don't know. You tell me."
"I guess it was just a dream, nothing to worry about. Thanks for caring, though."
"Daniel." She crossed her arms.
"What?"
"You know exactly what I mean. It was not just a dream, it was a nightmare, wasn't it?"
He looked at the floor. "Yeah, I guess so", he said quietly.
"Daniel, you can tell me! I came to your house, crying and you were there for me. I am there for you too, you know."
"Well, thank you. But I don't wanna bother you."
Kate sighed.
"You're like a five-year-old! You can't always fight the world alone, you know? I want to help you. I actually thought that you were mature enough to accept that."
She turned around, walked out of the room and sat on her bed.
About five minutes later, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
Daniel opened the door and sat beside her.
"I'm sorry, Kate. I really appreciate that you wanna help me. I was pretty dumb."
Kate smiled.

"It happens", she joked and he laughed.
