When Iris was six years old, she stopped speaking. For two years, she lived in silence-until she found Jude in an abandoned treehouse deep in the forest. He was the first person who never asked her to explain herself, the first person who understood the strange way she saw the world. Years later, Jude is still there. He climbs through her window when her light is on. He waits for her in the woods. He knows every version of her that nobody else ever tried to understand. Except no one else can see him. Her family says he isn't real. Her psychiatrist says he's a part of her mind. And after hearing it for years, Iris begins to wonder if they might be right. There are moments where everything could go differently. Most people call it chance. Iris calls it selection. She doesn't control reality. She chooses which version of it stays. At first, it's small, unnoticed, and harmless choices. Until the outcomes stop feeling random. Until people begin to notice the pattern. Until the versions that don't remain... start to matter. Between a best friend who understands her a little too well and a stranger who sees more than he should, Iris is forced to confront something she's avoided: Not every choice is neutral. They are admired by everyone and seen as the perfect family.... But all is not as it seems, because even the perfect have secrets...some darker than others.... And when even the perfect aren't perfect, who knows what could happen...
