The sound of the text message woke Evy in the middle of the night. Without opening eyes, she switched on the bedside lamp, looked at watch first and then at the phone. She rubbed forehead, trying to chase away the sleep. A message from Eddie. There was no time difference for this guy, and she was getting used to it.
"However, I must escape. I need asylum, you have a place. Can not stand. Help!" - She read each word twice, making sure she understood correctly. It was a continuation of the interrupted phone call from the previous afternoon. She nodded sadly.
It's been four weeks since she saw Eddie one last time. She didn't think the day after Taylor's concert would be their last. For several days she had been in London, at her mother's home, or rather at the home where her mother lived with her new partner Eric. Evy liked Eric, as did his two sons from his first marriage. She smiled involuntarily at the thought of the twins. They were of similar age and understood each other perfectly. It's like they've known each other all their lives, not for two years. There was never tension between the three of them although they rarely saw each other. She dropped onto the pillows and pressed the speed dial button. The answering machine turned on. She waited for the signal:
- Hi, it's Evy, call me no matter what time you finish work. I'm worried about your last text - She hung up.
She turned off the lamp and hugged her face to the pillow. She closed eyes in the hope of getting some sleep. It felt like 10 minutes had passed when she heard the telephone sound. She sat down in the dark and answered without looking at the screen.
- Yes? - Tried to make her voice sound natural
- Hi. I woke you up, right?
Edward's voice acted on her like touching an electric shepherd. She couldn't get rid of that feeling.
- Doesn't matter - she answered turning on the light - Can you explain to me what is happening?
- I'm just tired, that's all ...- Eddie, when will you rest at last?
Her voice became menacing, which only amused him. She was worried about him !.
- Actually, I shouldn't call. I'm on a plane to London ...
- What?! - She was surprised
He laughed out loud.
- Relax, girl. In my case, the less travel planned, the better. Less people know, less crowds at the airport, less sensation ...
- .... the dreamer ... - Interrupted him, causing another burst of laughter - What time do you land?
- In an hour at Heathrow, will you be there?- Of course - Evy threw back the covers and got out of bed. She looked at her watch, it was almost 4am - See you later - She turned off the phone without waiting for an answer. She dressed and washed quickly, looking nervously at her watch. She opened the drawer and took out the keys. There was one problem, she didn't have a car, but she knew how to get it. She quietly slipped down the corridor. She opened the last door, trying not to make unnecessary noise. It was completely dark in the room, but before she could take one step, it got bright. Someone turned on the light. She knew that the only person in this room, except her, was Peter. Her "almost" brother. Eric's son.
A half-naked man of enormous size sat on the bed. He had tousled dark hair falling down on his face, and tense muscles looked impressive. He had his arms folded and waited for explanation in silence. Evy had to admit that her "almost" brother was handsome. Peter was surprised to see her. Night visits of women in his room did occur, but he didn't expect sister. He watched her closely with black eyes and expressions of interest revealing curiosity and waiting for clarification.
