Many miles away, many lightyears away, in a whole other galaxy, a civilisation defied the odds and survived an apocalypse.

They were proud, they believed themselves to be indestructible. And so, they eliminated what had made the people before them destructible.

They eliminated the weaknesses that were feelings, because feelings spark greed and anger and sadness and violence. In a perfectly controlled and smoothly run society, what use had they for emotions and individuality?

So they handed this hatred of all things human down through the centuries, to hide the truth that humanity could also be good, could rise up out of the gloom of the vast universe and make such a beautiful creation that it eventually destroyed them. Because the robot race cannot be continued and controlled if they long for another way of life. No, life does not need to be anything beyond existence, they said, does not require extra experience. For the vitality of robots to continue, they must be blind to their reason for reality.

And so they devised a cunning plan, a way to keep their civilisation in a tight fist of control. Trap them within their identity, give them no freedom outside of their pre-chosen names. All robots must comply completely to their label, and none can live another life to the one chosen for them. And if they did, it would be easy to get rid of such a mild inconvenience.

But what if someone foresaw this, decided to continue the previous civilisation, had been blended into robot society since the very beginning and was determined to bring the human race and the world of artificial intelligence back into one. Eventually, they could even destroy those usurpers that survived when humans could not, and put the universe back into its natural balance.

What if all it took was one incredible being to change the whole cosmos...
