There once lived a fairy named Thea. She lived in an era where humans weren't cavemen but didn't have technology. They were civil and tented farms, gardens, and hunted to eat as well as make clothes.
Thea had gorgeous wings, they looked like a glass stained window out of a church, different shades of pink that all worked together. One day she was flying near the human's village and got caught in a dreamcatcher made out of twine & twigs. She wasn't looking where she was going and flew right into it. In her attempt to free herself from the tangles of string she attracted unwanted attention of a little boy, age 6.
The curious child took a look at the distressed fairy and carefully took her into his hands. Thea decided against fighting back and let the boy help her out, not that she could fly away with a tired body and sore wings anyways. He cupped his hands and went as smoothly as he could down the rocky path home.
The next morning, 10:19 am, Thea woke up in a box that used to contain a pair of shiney rocks on string, his mother's earrings. There was a roughly cut fabric in there to make it soft. She was warm and comfortable, not really wanting to leave immediately. After lingering around for a bit she peeked over the box and found the boy in the hut, on a leaf and animal skinned bed sharpening his father's spear, looking down sadly.
Thea tilted her head and fluttered over to him. The child noticed the look of confusion on her face and stopping what he was doing. "I don't want to go hunting, I know that one day I will have to as well as the other boys but..." he paused, "I don't want to see the blood." He winced, looking like he remembered something dejecting. "I went once with father- just to watch of course! I... would rather be in the garden with mother."
Thea felt pity for the small kid, fairies didn't have to deal with that. They ate honey, berries, fruit from trees, herbs, and mushrooms. Since they did their immune system grew to tolerate certain levels and kinds of poison. They drank from the river and leaves. She had an idea and flew off, out from under the door of branches and mud.
After some time the boy took notice of the fairy's absence, he looked for her but found a note carved on a pebble instead. "You gave me your hand so I will lend you mine." "Lavi, time to eat, your father caught a rabbit! It's over the fireplace now." "Coming mother!"
He sat down on the deer rug and ate, after he finished he said his prayers and stared at the moon and stars. Meanwhile Thea used a wish and magic to bring the boy out of his dismay. Every fairy has 3 coins to spend, no more, no less. They can make a selfless wish, kiss the coin, then drop it into the lake of flower petals.
So she did just that.
"Please do something for Lavi", the coin fell and disappeared into the petals. No one knew where they went exactly, once you drop it, it can't ever be retrieved. No matter how hard you look and how long you spend in there.
If a fairy passes away and didn't spend the coins, they would dissipate along with the owner.Nine Years Later
Lavi is now 15 and hasn't heard nor seen a single sign of any fairies. He convinced himself that it was merely a dream, but he would be lying if he said it didn't stick with him, even keeping him awake some nights, pondering. He was standing next to his family as the ceremony commenced and came alive, laughing, smiling, nervousness and excitement occupied the aura around them.
"Settle down" the chief yelled. "Please let me have our young men come forward" he motioned for them to step up.
Lavi nervously walked forward and got in line while his father beamed, his mother crying tears of joy for this honorable occasion. The chief went from right to left handing each boy either a wooden spear, a stone dagger, or a bow & arrow. Once he got to Lavi he was about to hand him a bow when the wind knocked it right out of his hand.
The strong wind was relentless in not having Lavi hold a single weapon. Everyone gasped, this never has happened before. A singular seed instead just dropped right in front of Lavi and he caught it in cupped hands.
The chief spoke, "It's a sign", he walked up to the was to be archer. He took the seed from Lavi's hands and another wind attack was casted. The seed, carried by the wind, glided back to him.Everyone was amazed!
They whispered to themselves and each other. Chief held up the boy's arm, "this man already has a chosen destiny! His title and role? Head gardener!"
Everyone cheered, clapped, and hollored as grains of wheat were thrown and the kids became a part of the community. Little was known that the seed wasn't like any other discovered. It was going to bloom into a flower of many uses. Medicine, spice, not to leave out an overall pleasant scent.
