John strolled alongside the shoppes on a busy London street. Today marked the second year since he and Sherlock had moved in together, and Mrs Hudson had decided to cook a nice dinner. John was looking for a gift or two for his friends. He read names of the little stores and came across a most strange looking place, simply titled, "The Odd Mans Shoppe". He pushed the door opens and walked in.
Inside, he looked around at all the strange merchandise. Old toys, CDs, novelty mugs, among other misfit things. A splash of blue caught his eye.
He picked up the object and studied it. It was a silk-lined violin case, and it looked like it might just fit Sherlock's violin.
He walked around the store for a few more moments, then selected a new apron for Mrs Hudson.
He paid for his items, then exited the store, hailing for a cab to take him home to 221B Baker's St.
Sherlock sat in his arm chair, hands put together, a look of concentration. Today was special, and he wanted to give John something he would always remember. He had been tossing around the idea of John and him being together.
All those girlfriends and he has never committed to a single one of them. But, he has put up with me. Sherlock thought, satisfyingly.
It was odd for Sherlock to acknowledge he fact that he had emotions. Especially the one called love. If that was what it was. A lot of other people certainly thought so.
He was interrupted be John walking in through the door. Sherlock looked up. "Hello John ." He said pleasantly.
"Mrs Hudson says supper is ready."
"Alright." Sherlock followed John to Mrs Hudson's flat. Awaiting them seemed mountains of food, more than enough for three people.
John clapped his hands together, "Mrs Hudson, this looks delicious, but before we eat I have a gift for both of you."
John took out his wrapped gift for Mrs Hudson and handed it to her. Mrs Hudson pulled on the ribbon and lifted the box lid off, taking out her new apron.
"Oh John dear! It's wonderful! " She said, happily hugging John.
"And now for you Sherlock." Sherlock looked up with mild interest as John pulled out the box containing the case.
Sherlock accepted John's gift, tugging on the ribbon slowly, then lifting the case out. He examined the dark wood lined with blue silk.
"Oh John! It's beautiful! Sherlock go get your violin and see if it fits." Mrs Hudson cried joyously.
Sherlock left and returned a few moments later with his violin. He placed it inside the case, in which it fit like a glove. A faint smile reached his lips.
Sherlock walked over to John, and pulled him into a great hug. He looked into John's wide eyes. His pupils are dilated too, he thought. Then he leaned in and kissed him softly.
"Thank you, John." He said choking slightly on his name . Small pearls leaked from his eyes. That case was the nicest thing anyone ever got him.
John stood in shock for a moment, unsure of how to react. His best friend had kissed him. The genius, Sherlock Holmes kissed him, John Watson. He looked at Sherlock, who had small tears dripping down his face. John sighed and slipped his hand into Sherlock's hand and entwined their fingers happily.
