(boss battle) blighted nargacuga pt. 1

It says pt 1 for a reason.

Third person POV

Bryan couldn't do anything to except look at the nargacuga in fear as Spike pulled him to his feet. It's eyes looked over Jakey and Frost, but than it looked towards Spike, Navirou, and Bryan. It's red eyes narrowed at Bryan, before leaping at them. The three ended up jumping in different directions, and managed to get away from it by the time it landed directly where they were standing. It turned its head towards Bryan and they locked eyes, causing Bryan to gasp. Not out of fear, but shock.

Bryan didn't know how to explain it, but the anger in its eyes that was mixed with both fear and pain made him realize something. The nargacuga didn't want to hurt them, but it doesn't have any control over its body. He instantly knew that something was wrong, and has been wrong for a long time. Yet he didn't know how he knew this. Bryan was so deep in thought that he didn't notice the nargacuga jump at him. He managed to move out of the way, just as the nargacuga hit where his head was, and broke the wall of the stone cavern. Bryan felt the familiar scales of Spike rub up against him before Jakey yelled out.

"Bryan, take Spike and get out of the cave! Wait by the enterance for Frost and I to get out there!" Bryan nodded and hopped on Spike before remembering something important.

"Nargacuga have a tendency to use speed attacks but will use their spike bomb attack and occasionally use power attacks and technical attacks." Jakey nodded as he turned to the nargacuga with Frost by his side and his sword drawn, Navirou was watching from behind a rock.

After Bryan and Spike left the room, Jakey turned his head and glared at the nargacuga. This is the one that made Bryan cry all those years ago. Frost felt the rage that was radiating off of Jakey, causing him to also feel angry. Jakey studied the nargacuga's movement and saw it was going for a speed attack. He prepared to use a technical attack to counter if it goes for hi

It charged towards him while using a speed attack, and Jakey tried to counter with the technical attack, causing a head-to-head. Since technical attacks beat speed attacks, Jakey was able to weaken the damage he took, and managed to deal a bit of damage to the nargacuga. It was about to turn towards him and attack him, but was stopped by Frost slamming into its side with a power attack.

The nargacuga raised its tail and let its spikes stick out before spinning it rapidly. Once the spikes stuck out of its tail, Jakey immediately knew that it was using a spike bomb attack. He warned Frost and they managed to avoid most of the spikes. Jakey and Frost both charged towards the nargacuga at the same time, who attempted to counter with a power attack.

Since speed attacks beat power attacks, and they attacked at the same time, Jakey and Frost did a double attack or whatever it was called. (I don't remember what it was called)
This stopped the nargacuga from doing any damage to them, while they dealt damage to it. After a few more rounds of them dealing damage to each other and trying to avoid any attacks, something happened. The nargacuga growled as it's eyes started to glow even more than they were earlier. The nargacuga was mad, and this wasn't a good thing.

Jakey remembered that when wild monsters become mad they seem to alter their tactics, which even the slightest change in a monsters tactic could throw anyones chance of beating it out of a window. Jakey felt Frost press up against him while the nargacuga waited for them to do something. All of a sudden, Jakey's kinship stone started glowing brightly.

Jakey was confused until Navirou realized why it was glowing.

''Pawtner! Frost is telling you to hop on!'' Jakey was surprised before looking to Frost to make sure.

Frost nodded as Jakey grabbed onto his saddle and pulled himself up. Jakey remembered what Mario had told him last month.

'If you're riding your monstie while in battle with another monster, than don't use your kinship skill straight away. It's best to use it after you win two head-to-head events unless you're close to falling off. If you do wait and complete two head-to-head events, than your kinship skill will be at it's strongest.'

Jakey increased his grip on the saddle while he studied the nargacuga's movements. He could tell by the movements that the nargacuga was going for a speed attack. He waited for it to come charging and told Frost what to do when it did.

''Use a technical attack.'' Frost nodded and charged towards the nargacuga while preparing to do a technical attack.

The nargacuga was indeed using a speed attack which weakened the damage it dealt while increasing the damage it took, while it did the exact opposite to the rider and monstie. The nargacuga prepared itself to use a technical attack and charged towards the pair before Jakey could utter a command. This failed however, because Frost somehow knew which attack Jakey wanted to use, which was power, and used it, causing them to win their second head-to-head. Jakey looked towards Frost as if asking if he was ready, this caused Frost to nod.

Jakey closed his eyes as the words 'Phantasmal Horn' appeared in his head. He raised up his kinship stone and he found both him and Frost on some sort of mountain in a completely different area. This didn't worry him as he was told things like this happen when others use their kinship skills. Frost started to leap down the mountain with large jumps, causing lightning to strike where he once stood. Once he reached the bottom, he lowered his head and charged forward. In a few seconds, after he had closed about half the distance, a beam of electricity shot out of him and he stopped while it hit the nargacuga dead-on.

They all found themselves back where they once were, and the nargacuga let out a loud roar before running out of the cave. Navirou jumped towards them and said a quick ''good job'' before they left the cave to check on Bryan.

They exited the cave and saw Spike curled up against the wall with a worried Bryan against his stomach. He looked towards them once he heard the soft crunch of the grass from Jakey dismounting Frost. His eyes immediately brightened as he got up and rushed towards them before giving all of them a big hug.

''I was so worried when the nargacuga came out but you guys didn't.'' Jakey gave an apologetic smile and hugged Bryan before picking him up bridal style, causing a yelp from Bryan and what could have been considered chuckles from the monster while Navirou smiled at that. Jakey drowned when a thought entered his mind.

''Why did you freeze up when you locked eyes with the nargacuga? Your face didn't show fear, but it showed surprise or shock.'' Bryan sighed before giving an answer.

''I'll tell you later, I'm going to explain what happened and why I froze up to the chief and the rest of our friends.'' Jakey was unsatisfied with the answer but was okay with knowing that he'll get one later.

''We should head back to the village pawtners. Today has been exciting and we could all take time to relax.'' The monsties and humans nodded before making their way to the village.

I asked in the previous chapter, but I'll ask again. Should I change the Mario x Kay and possible David x Inmo into David x Mario?

And did I do a good job at writing the battle? Because this is my first time writing about anything like that.

Bonus scene;

None of them were aware, but a monster was watching them from the top of one of the cliffs that surrounded the area. This monster was a rathalos, and was watching them with interest. It was starting to get hungry and was about to go and hunt some velociprey, but saw them and decided to watch.

It looked at Bryan with its one amethyst colored eye and one emerald colored eye which had a scar that it got a while back. Its eyes softened before he turned around and flew to a different part of the area to hunt.
