Gettin home from church,King and P helped Free out of the car as they brought him in and put him in Kirk's bed,before goin to hang out in the back yard. His mother went straight to her kitchen stirring the food she had kept warm as she turned the rest of her pots on low,stoppin King.

Wait a minute,where yall think yall goin? The guest will be here soon,and I have a few chores for yall. Patricia, your mother told me you once had a job with US lawns cuttin grass last summer? Other than school why did you quit? She said you was real good at tending to yards. I'll pay you 30 dollars if you can cut the backyard for me before my guests get here. And King I need you to rake up them leaves in the front,bag em up. Then when yall finish grab them tables and chairs out the storage and set em up. After that yall can go do whatever yall were about do. Patricia,I need a minute alone wit King,I need to talk to him. Yes ma'am P said as she headed out back.

Now,I need to know what's goin on with Fredrick. Why in the world is he showin up at church drunk,she asked. Wanting to tell his mother about about why Free was drinkin heavily, he only told her what he wanted her to know rather than tellin her everything. He leaned against the wall,and folded his arms as he sighed.

He need somewhere to stay,and he asked me but I told him I'd talk to you. If you say no,I'll see if he can stay wit me and Kirk. But what happened was,him and Ms Rita they had a fallin out,and she put him out. He my best friend,ma you know I grew up wit him,and I'mma always have his back. I'm not lettin him live on the street. So I was wonderin if he can stick around til we graduate. He not gone be disobeyin you,he not gone be disrespectful and he promised if we gave him a place to stay he'd be grateful and help you around here wit what's ever needed. And.. I talked to Kirk like you told me to,but he ain't get back to me,King said watchin her walk around.

Once you make him mad,it's only right that you let him cool off til he come around. I dont know what else to do. I already feel guilty bout bringin Deuce over here when I shouldve left him at the house. I didn't expect what happened yesterday to happen,but it did. Deuce saved Courtney life,and if he wanna stay mad at me for something like that,I understand. But if those people had hurt Courtney, and killed my son,I'd lose my mind. I'm not sorry for nothin other than not listenin to him and you. As for that fight when we tore the house up,I'm not apoligizin to him for that either. I already tried. I'm tired of tryin when it ain't gettin me nowhere. Apologies don't go a long way like they used to. The only thing I can do now is accept everything includin my losses and move forward. And by movin forward,I'm cleaning up my act. I'm no longer finna be doin what he doin. I'mma straighten up, clean up my ways for Courtney and my son's sake. And for you. I'm sorry, ma. Oh and..I know Courtney and Ms Nedra mad at me so..if you talk to them can you make sure Courtney gets this,King said as he pulled a letter out his pocket handin it to his mother.

As Ms Evelyn headed to her room,King went outside gettin the proper tools from the shed to start maintainin the yard as there was a knock at the front door. Not gettin an answer,Eli walked around the back where he found King and P strugglin to pull the lawn mower out the storage.

You sure grew up since the last time i saw you. Lookin more like me,Eli said as King and P stopped what they were doing. King was speechless for a moment as he turned around and saw his father for the first time in years. Even tho 12 years was a long time King still felt the hurt and pain from his childhood that his father had caused in the earlier years and he still haven't gotten over it.
