June stretched dramatically as she walked out of the theatre and down the front stairs. “That. Was. Awesome!” she exclaimed excitedly while swinging around the end of the stair rail.
“ Did you see they way they animated the water though? That must of taken them weeks” Emia replied following close behind.
The two girls wandered out into the baren parking lot, chatting about the movie the whole way to the road. June only lived two blocks over and Emia was spending the night. Austin was supposed to come as well, but her mom made her chaperone at her little sister’s birthday instead. By the time they had made it to the cross walk the big cloud that was covering the sky had moved on, allowing the moon to finally look down on the quiet town, mixing it’s ghostly silver glow with the amber orange of the streetlights.
“ Look the moons finally out’’ June whispered as she felt the silence of the night should not be broken so harshly.
“Woah,” Emia, who was already halfway across the road breathed in response. She finished crossing the road and turned around to see June, standing on the other sidewalk still gawking at the moonlit sky. “You’d better hurry up or I’m going to leave you and eat all of your cookies.”
At this June quickly snapped her head away from the sky and stared directly into Emia’s eyes. “You better not” June called back with a humorously threatening tone.
“Oh I will” Emia snickered starting to run towards June’s house.
“Hey!” June laughed back chasing after her. She was almost halfway across the street when a bright light hit her harshly in the eyes. She looked over at the source but it was too late. Everything faded black. The last thing June heard was a loud horrified scream and footsteps in her running at her. She felt her cheeks become wet as the buzzing in her ears grew louder and then, nothing.
