"He was a good man, your father," Death said as they appeared beside June. "He would be proud of you, you're so kind to others."
June turned her tear stained face towards Death. "Did he die in peace?"
"Yes, he knew that you were strong enough to make it without him, he knew you would take care of your mother," Death told her in a reassuring tone. "He never blamed you for his death you know, so why do you blame yourself?"
"Because if I hadn't asked him to take me-"
              "But you went every year"
"If I hadn't asked him to go he would have never gotten caught in that flash flood!" June yelled surprising herself.
"Neither of you could have known the dam would break. It was pure chance that you were both there when it happened. You need to forgive yourself. Or else you'll never be able to rest in peace." Death gently explained to her, hoping she would understand.
June stood there, silent and still for what seemed like hours. When she finally looked up she had tears in her eyes and a bittersweet smile on her face. She had finally forgiven herself. She began to fade away until there was nothing left but a small whisper, letting out one final thank you. June was finally at peace.
One more soul would get to live out a peaceful life after death. That was their favorite part of their job, getting to see the souls find peace. Death’s only wish was to see souls pass on with a smile on their face. With a snap of their fingers they were gone, off to reap another soul. Death smiled. Their wish had come true.
