My life is meaningless

Without you in it

"Medic! Medic! Hurry!"

"Oh my god, it's Officer Jeon!"

"Quick! Dispatch and search the area!"

My mind drowned in the overlapping cries, shouts and yells of dozens of men, sirens blaring, cacophony of noises engulfing me. The harsh tug of my arms snapped me out of whatever daze I was in, and when the hazes cleared, Jungkook was being carried to the ambulance van on a stretcher.

Heart dropping at the sight of him, I propped myself up with my hands on the cold floor to somehow make my dead legs move.

"Jungkook," I yelled after him when they put him inside the van.

"Come on, Ina," someone's familiar voice sounded beside me and I was lifted off the ground with ease. When I turned to my right, Jimin was staring up ahead with his hands around me for support. Even though his tears were trickling down his cheeks, with shaky breaths, he said, "Be strong for him."

I couldn't say anything, only broken sobs coming out of my dry mouth. I couldn't be strong. How could I? Why would I? The only reason I was able to live through each torturous day in this fucked up world was gone before my eyes.

Each breath I took now was meaningless, useless.

Jimin took me to the ambulance van among all the chaos, heaved me up to get inside and followed me, sitting on the chair beside me. We were silent, our eyes vacantly fixed on the usually exuberant person laying on the stretcher before us. Motionless.

My brain couldn't accept the truth. He was still there with me. He wasn't gone. Maybe, just maybe, he would open those starry eyes and give me that endearing bunny grin that I adored. I would apologize for keeping him in the dark and scold him for coming out here alone and putting himself in danger.

But he laid there unmoving...

No matter how desperately I tried to deny the reality, he wasn't moving.

And my whole world fell apart when the medic acknowledged the truth.

"I'm sorry... He's already passed."

"Ina, please."

I sat there in silence with my head against my knees as Jimin kept pressing me to have just one spoonful of food.

All my senses were paralyzed, my mind drowning in haze.

Time was distant. I was numb.

Everything felt so useless.
