•Chapter 5: The Great Escape?
My lip rings start to poke me, so I fix them. "There has to be something I can use to escape from this hell hole." I say to myself as I'm looking around the room, Nothing.I slip my blue high tops back on, lace them up, and I quietly slip out of my assigned bedroom. I know the staircase has a few creaky steps, so I step lightly on them. The door at the bottom of the stairs is open, lucky me. As soon as I'm on the last step I realize that someone could have left the door open purposefully. I don't care at this point.
I go to my right down a wicked short hallway, then I come to the living room, with the back door.
"This is it, my way out." I whisper to myself.
I hear footsteps, and I automatically look around. I don't see anyone, that's good. My heart is beating as I put my hand on the door knob. I hear someone clear their throat, I'm screwed.
I turn around, and I'm not surprised to see who's standing in the doorway. I was hoping it would be Aaron....... I'm gonna die for sure.
The Mother glares at me, whip in her hand. She raises her arm as she approaches me. I brace myself for the sting..... But I never feel it. I realize my eyes are closed, and I open them to see Aaron in front of me, his hand is intertwined with mine, and it hits me, he took the blow for me.
The Mother look at Aaron appalled, "Aaron!!" She screams, "What are you doing?!"
He looks her in the eyes and says, "I'm protecting her."My heart is still beating 100 million miles an hour, and I'm shaking like a chihuahua on a cold Maine winter day.
The Mother looks at him horrified, "Why are you protecting It?!"
I can tell that Aaron is getting annoyed with her, "1. She's not an 'it', and 2. You have no right to treat her like this."
Right now, I don't know wether I should run, or keep hidden behind Aaron.
The Mother looks like she's gonna kill someone, wether or not she has the chance, "It was trying to escape, It deserves to be punished. Now move or else were going to have to go Slave shopping sooner than you think." She says, glaring at both of us.
Aaron stands his ground. Me, I back up, until I'm against the the back door, with my free hand, I quietly turn the knob, and I panic, making a run for it.
It's snowing, and I'm in short shorts, my sweatshirt from home, and a tanktop. I see a tall birch tree, and I climb it, feeling like I don't have any other choice.
Once I get to a tall branch, I lean my back against the trunk, and I hug my knees, trying not to cry. The cold air feels good. I roll up my right sleeve, and I look at that stupid number the Auctioneer put on my arm, '60211' is the number. Then I figure it out, it's pretty much a serial number in case I get lost. I pull my sleeve back down, because it is wicked cold out here.
I look around, and I'm glad I don't see The Mother. I hope I didn't get Aaron in to much trouble.
I jump down from the branch I'm on, and I grip the razor in my pocket, "Okay," I whisper to myself, "This is now for defense purposes."
