(A/N: I've added a song to this chapter. I'll let you know when to play it)
Aylen ringed Pat's doorbell and a moment later her shirtless brother opened the front door, a can of beer in his hand.
"Hey . . . Andrew," Aylen said. "Is Pat home?"
Andrew's brows furrowed. He stared at her as if she asked the most ridiculous question he'd ever heard.
It probably was.
"Why the fuck would I know what my sister's doing?" he said. "You know I don't give a sh—"
"Okay, Andrew. I get it," Aylen said. "A simple fucking yes or no would have sufficed."
Andrew looked from Aylen to Kaden standing next to her, the lax expression on his face turning into a scowl.
"Does she make y'all call her Pat?" he spat. "That shit pisses me off because our mother named her Patricia. That's her fucking name. Our mother died giving birth to that ungrateful bitch and I find it very disrespectful for you to call her anything other than her fucking name—"
"Whoa, dude, relax," Kaden said, standing between Aylen and Andrew. "Don't you think you're being a bit unfair?"
"No, I don't," Andrew said, poking a firm finger against Kaden's chest. "You're gonna show some respect under this roof."
"Chill, dude," Aylen interjected. "I'm . . . sorry about your mother, but you don't have to act that way. Pat told me everybody calls her—"
"It's Patricia!" Andrew said through gritted teeth. "Stop fucking around—I'm serious!"
I've been calling Patricia "Pat" for forever. What's his deal all of a sudden?
"Okay, we get it," Kaden said. "If Patricia isn't here, we'll be on our way."
Andrew stared at them for a few seconds before tilting his head back and draining his beer can.
"She's probably out fucking some chick . . . or whatever," he slurred, crushing the can in his hand and tossing it out onto the lawn. "I don't know how that shit works."
"You're disgusting!" Aylen seethed. "It's unfortunate Patricia is stuck with you for her brother—she deserves much better."
A grin spread across his ugly face.
"You do know Patricia's only friends with you because she wants some ass, right?"
"Andrew, what the fuck are you doing?" came Pat's voice from inside the house.
Aylen looked past Andrew to see Pat marching toward them, her face red with fury.
"Why are you fucking with my friends?" she said, shoving him to the side. She looked at Aylen and Kaden. "Come in, guys."
Aylen and Kaden stepped into the living room. It looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. There were beer cans, clothes and toys scattered across the floor and dirty dishes atop just about every surface.
"Your friends?" Andrew slurred. "They don't even know your fucking name—"
"Fuck off, Andrew!" Pat seethed. She looked at Aylen. "Follow me," she whispered.
Aylen and Kaden followed Pat through the living room and up a staircase near the backdoor.
"So . . . I see you and your brother are still getting along," Aylen quietly said.
"He's been even more of a dipshit since Katie got full custody of Charlie," Pat said, reaching the landing. "All he does is drink and bitch all day. It's sad to watch."
