Give Up (Jeongyeon)

"damn it's already 3am and i still can't sleep" i muttered to myself. A few minutes later, i heard a knock followed by a voice "Baby, are you alright?"

It was jeongyeon.

She entered my room and opened the lights. I rubbed my eyes, squinting and trying to let my eyes adjust to the view of my lit room; then it hit me.

My room was a mess, papers are all over the place, coffee mugs are everywhere and my laptop was actually open, gathering pictures from my camera.

I looked at the mirror, my eyes were red and my hair is a total mess.

I noticed jeongyeon behind me, her eyebrows knitted into a worried expression and her mouth biting the tip of her nails- she heaved a deep sigh and sat beside me

"babe, you should stop" she said as she caressed my face with her smooth hands

"stop? I can't stop- i- this is my life!" i said, nearly shouting

She moved closer and hugged me

"i know, but look what it's done to you... to us" she whispered gently into my ears

"Baby.. i.. i don't know" i replied

I am a scientist- well.. sort of, i studied quantum physics and my team recently discovered another dimension- we created a type of portal, it was tested and it malfunctioned since it was only a prototype. 3 of the scientists in my team got sucked up into the portal and the rest almost died.. including me.

Ever since that failure, i started having nightmares- after the 12th nightmare, i swore that i would find where that portal leads to and save my co-workers.. it's been months and i still haven't made any progress.

This much stress got to me and i started having anxiety attacks, i closeted myself and decided to just stay home until i figured things out.

The guilt was eating me and everything got worse, so did the nightmares- and that brings us to the present.

"give it up, please- it's not good for you" Jeongyeon was on the brink of tears

"but because of me... 3 scientists are in god knows where"

"no, don't do this to yourself" she said as she stroked my hair

I pulled myself back and looked into her eyes

"I'm sorry.. i can't give up" i said, firmly.

She cried and begged me. It hurts seeing my girlfriend like this...

So i had to lie

"alright baby, i give up... i- i'll stop"

She hugged me tightly and tucked me into bed, she then kissed my forehead and left.

"I'm sorry jeong..."
