"Aye shawty its ya birthday, we're gonna party like its ya birthday..." I sang, inviting my self through the house, past living room, and up the stairs to Layla's room where I found her cacooned in grey, fluffy blankets.

"Go shawty..." I sang into the imaginary microphone while pointing at Layla.

"Girl stopppppp."

"You know you love my singing." I said blowing her a kiss and winking.

"Wassup with you today?"

"Whatchu mean?"

"I mean you're acting like someone gave you happy pills."

I jumped plopped onto the bed

"Better than acting like someone pissed in my cherios." I said pointedly.

"What are you on?" She asked only half joking. I laughed.

"What are the plans for today?" I asked after a couple seconds avoiding her question.

"Don't change the subject."

"Ok, ok, I may be a little high."

"A little..." she raised her eyebrows at me

"Why you on my case?" I groaned knowing she caught me.

"Why you on my bed?" She shot back mockingly. I gave her a light shove rolling my eyes.

I looked up at the screen to see a girl and a guy on a motorcycle in the rain, her clutching onto him tight and helpless; once I again rolled my eyes. C'mon where is the feminism. Katelyn is rubbing off to much on her.

This is the day Layla turns 18, so I had every right to be excited, my lil girl was growing up. Plus tonight, we're going to go her favorite boyband, PRETTYMUCH with Taleigha, Chalise, and Katelyn. Since some of the other girls can't go to a club with her because we're under age well except for me and Taleigha, I'm 18 and she is 19. Tonight is kind of our 'Layla Time', even though we get to spend the whole summer with her.

Today is just for her and her family, but tonight we are going to go dancing. Tomorrow I think she,Taleigha, and her college friends are going to an 18 and over club or some shit. I'm not going, because my parents are making me go to a kind of dinner or something with our new neighbors.

"So what's the plan today?" I asked again plopping wrapping myself in the big blanket with her.

"Going to la casa de mis abuelos, see the family."

"Fuunnnnn."

"I know right." she rolled her eyes. "All I need right now is mis tíos to ask me if I have a boyfriend, and my abuela to ask 'How's school' every five minutes."

We talked for a little bit until it was time for her and her parents to go.

I stuck around the house for a while, checked to see what chick flick she had been watching, (btw it was The Kissing Booth if you were curious) poured myself a bowl of dry cereal.

Yes, I eat dry cereal and in case you were wondering the cereal was Lucky Charms. Why, you may ask? Well, because they don't buy Fruity Pebbles and Layla had already ate all of the Cap N' Crunch. Gosh, you guys are nosey, just me chew in peace.

Usually I wouldn't go around eating everyone else's food but I'm like Jaqueline and Phillipe's (Layla's parents) other daughter. When my my parents would go on business trips when I was a kid I would stay here.

See the thing is though that Phillipe is Aztec Native and Jaquline is Dominican, but moved to Mexico after she had Richard -Layla's brother-. Layla and her family immigrated here when she was nine along with her brother who was eleven. I used to have a HUGE crush on Richard, it's kind of faded now that he joined a band and NEVER comes home to visit, well that and he has a kid.
