Stormfur stretches in his warm nest of feathers feeling the steady breathing of his mate Brook beside him.
"Stormfur." A paw prodded him in the shoulder. He looked up to see Splash looking down at him. "We need you for the sunrise patrol." She said.
Stormfur nodded and got up carefully as to not wake Brook up. His shook a few feathers from his pelt and gave his chest a few swift licks before he joined his tribe mates by the mouth of the cave.
"We're heading out now." Splash said when he was a fox length away from them. He thought for a moment how odd it was that there was hardly a cat in the tribe that had ever seen a fox. He shook that thought away and followed the others passed the water fall and through the narrow pass that lead to the tribe's territory. The tribe had a large territory even larger than any of the clan territories back in the forest by the lake. Stormfur's paw pads had been hardened by his many walks through the mountains and his time spent with the tribe. All the moons he'd spent here and sometimes he couldn't help but worry about the clans.
"I smell something odd." Lark said raising her tail. "It's cats... but they smell off."
It wasn't long before they found the intruders. Four large muscled toms; dark brown tabby, ginger with white patches, white with blue-grey markings, and white with ginger markings. With them was a small flame colored shecat with very large white and blue striped ears. She had white markings on her face and was barely larger than a four moon old kit.
"Wait," Stormfur warned his tribe mates. "Let's see what they do." No cat argued with him.
The dark brown tabby was looking around with a look of pure confusion on his face.
"Where the Stang are we?" He hissed.
"Anakin." The ginger and white tom scolded his companion. "We are clearly lost but there is no need for that kind of language."
"Maybe be its some kind of glitch." The white tom with blue markings chimed in.
"I highly doubt a glitch could addle our brains this much, Rex." The one with ginger markings said, And Stormfur assumed he was the other Tom's littermate.
The tiny shecat was sticking close to the dark brown tom. "I have a bad feeling about this..." she murmured, the fur around her chest and neck was so thick she almost looked like a very small lion.
"I'm inclined to agree with Ashoka." The ginger and white tom said. "This please seems hostile."
"Well I Don't sense anything dangerous." The one called Anakin said. He leaped on to the top of a rock. Now he was completely out in the open. Bad idea, Stormfur thought as his companions joined him. It wasn't long before the large shadow of an eagle fell over the group of strange cats.
"Take cover!" He heard the one called Rex shout. The cats all tried to leap away from the eagles cruel talons. There was a cry of pain; the shecat had been caught. She looked even smaller in the grip of the eagles claws. Anakin was trying desperately to hold onto one of the eagle's wings while rex, and the other two toms hissed and clawed at the eagle's featherless legs.
"We have to help them." Stormfur told his tribe mates. "We can not ignore a kit in danger." The other cats all nodded and the tribe cats jumped into action. But when they reached the fight it was too late. Anakin's jaws had slipped from the eagle's wing and Rex fell with a thud to the cold stone.
"Help!" Ashoka tried to reach out but her paws caught nothing but air. Anakin tried one last time and he jumped higher then should have been possible for any cat but his small companion was just out of reach. The eagle beat its wings and even though she struggled the small shecat in its grip cloud not break free. The massive bird got smaller and smaller as it flew away and became a dot on the clear blue sky.
Anakin the dark brown tabby let out a wail so full of grief that it nearly ripped Stormfur's heart into. The ginger and white tom moves to comfort his friend but stopped when he noticed the tribe cats. With grief In his blue eyes he approached Stormfur.
"Who are you?" His voice cracked with emotion. Anakin was still staring up at the sky, and Rex was shaking with his claws out and eyes wide with shock.
"I... I am Stormfur... of the tribe of rushing water." He said.
"We're sorry about your friend." Splash tried.
"You could have helped!" Anakin snarled, turning on the tribe cats in an instant. "I sensed you hiding in those rocks! If you had helped Ashoka would still be here!"
Stormfur could see the grief in the Tom's eyes. It was the grief of someone who'd just lost a littermate or kit. Stormfur had felt on of those when he'd lost his sister feathertail.
"We thought you were trespassing." Lark tried to explain. "This is tribe territory... we assumed you were here to steal our prey."
"We're lost!" Anakin growled unsheathing his claws.
"You're injured." Splash said. "And you're in shock... let us take you back to our cave where you can heal and rest."
"If you think for a second that-" Anakin's store filled retort was cut off by the ginger and white tom.
"We will take you up on your offer." He said giving his younger companion a warning look which made the dark tabby shut his jaws with a snap of his fangs. "I am Obi-Wan Kenobi." The tom want on now addressing the tribe cats. "This is Anakin, Rex, And Cody."
The white tom with ginger markings dipped his head to them when his name was spoken. Stormfur nodded and the tribe cats led the strangers back to the tribe's cave. They lead them through the winding tunnels that lead to Stone teller's den.
"Who are these cats?" The tribe healer asked eyeing the strangers with his searching eyes. Obi-Wan introduced himself and his companions and explained about the how the eagle had stolen the small shecat named Ashoka.
"Then we shall prepare a vigil for her." Stone Teller said. He called the tribe together and spoke the ancient words of morning. "Ashoka, May you find rest in the tribe of endless hunting. May your young heart and bravery bring them to lift you up into their endless skies where you may watch over us for moon upon moon."
Stormfur watched Anakin bristle with his claws unsheathed and scraping the cave floor. He had to look away hoping against hope that they hadn't just brought a dangerous foe into their caves.
