PROLOGUE

"You want me to make a song with who?"

Perrie Edwards' manager just stares at her with a glare in his eye as he watches her tip off the ashes of her cigarette onto the carpeted floor beneath her. Her expression was wild, even if her eyes do barely open anymore. It was clear to everyone in the room that she was on something – as per usual – but that wasn't why she was so distraught over the offer.

"If you do a collab with Jade Thirlwall, your sales will skyrocket since she's all of the talk right now after winning X Factor. Her first single went to number one in the matter of minutes," he says, snapping his fingers to emphasize how fast her single got to the top of the charts. "You haven't done that in a year."

Perrie blows out cigarette smoke from her glossy lips, rolling her eyes in annoyance over the sassy comment at the end. She knows that her career hasn't been the best it could be, but she couldn't care less. Her fan base was the strongest it's been, even with the news reports of her being a drugged out pop-star. It was almost as if people loved that shit. "Does it look like I want to sing with some indie shit singer who sings in cursive?" she complains, sitting back in her seat and resting her feet on her manager's desk. "I sing pop songs, not whatever Jeed is singing."

Her manager waves his hand over his nose, attempting to wave off the pungent cigarette smoke from his face. "Get your feet off my desk," he grumbles as he pushes her feet off. "I may be your manager, but I am your father too, Perrie. I need your career to go more smoothly than how it is now. So, you're taking this offer and that's final."

The blonde star rolls her eyes once more as her feet fall back down to the carpeted flooring. Her father had been her manager ever since he signed the record deal for her when she was only sixteen. It was all a dream for her parents that she became a superstar that traveled the world and made them money. Even if she wanted to have a say in it, her dad, or manager, was signing the deal that confirmed their collaboration.

"I'm going to be writing a song with Perrie Edwards?"

Jade was pacing back and forth in her living room as her manager sat on the couch, sorting through the papers sent from Perrie's people. She just recently won the X Factor and it was a whirlwind of fun and chaos. But she never liked the pop-star, especially after hearing the rumors of her nasty behavior and social life.

"How is that going to look for me? I sing about positivity and pretty things and Perrie is just – everything but," she complains as she now stood in front of her manager.

"Now, don't be so rude," her manager scoffs. "I'm sure the rumors aren't true. You know that tabloids can manipulate things to make them out to be completely different." Jade was still scratching at her head, a nervous habit of hers that she has had for years. "This would actually be good for both of you. Perrie's been at a bit of a downfall because of tabloids and you're just getting started. Singing with a well-known pop-star will definitely get you buzz. And she'll probably get more positive by the end of it."

Jade sits down on the armchair across the couch and puts her head in her hands. She saw how it would look at a business perspective, but she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to handle being with someone like Perrie, even if it was for only a song and a few performances. It was clear that Perrie has never worked for what she's got and her nasty attitude doesn't help her case. Jade thinks she's a terrible person.

But, she agrees, allowing her manager to say yes to the collaboration offer.
