I pant hard and take deep breaths to calm myself down. I stand up straight and as I'm about to make my way towards the panicked man, I hear a familiar, husky voice.
"VICTORIA!"
My loosened ponytail flies with the wind like flames as I whip my head to look over my shoulder. I find Grayson sprinting towards me from around the ally wall with a shocked expression on his face.
When he catches up to me, he grabs my elbow right before he trips over himself, pulling me slightly down with him.
"Woah, you okay?" I ask trying to balance the both of us. After he regained his balance, he seems more calm and relaxed.
"What were you thinking?! You can't just run off like that man. You're lucky Madam Crapsette didn't-"
"But I-"
I cut Grayson off by pointing towards the dead end. Unfortunately, as I turn my head back around, I find that the strange man had disappeared.
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped.
He was RIGHT THERE! I SAW him! Where did he go?!
"Uh Vic? You okay?" Grayson asked, slightly scrunching down his eyebrows. He followed my gaze to the empty dead end.
"B-but h-he-he was-"
"Vic, there's no one there..."
"N-no...I-I-I saw-"
Grayson cut me off by putting the back of his palm to my forehead. He titled his head towards me and I saw worry frost across his face.
"You feeling okay? Do you need to go to the doc or something?"
I backed away swatting his hand off.
"Yes, I'm fine idiot. I just thought I-...ugh never mind. Just forget it." I shake my head in annoyance.
Dang it, he got away.
"Okay well, we need to get back before Mona walks into another beauty store, 'IDIOT'."
With that, Grayson starts to stride out of the ally. I take one last glance back at the empty dead end as I take my Allah necklace into my fist. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I got a chill up my spine as if someone was watching me. As if I wasn't alone in this creepy ally.
"G-Grayson! Wait up!" With that, I jog to catch up with Grayson, not daring to take another look back.
We find Mona at a gift shop, holding a small keychain that says 'Quebec' on it. When she sees us walk in, she squeals.
"Isn't this cute?!"
"Haha yea! It is," smiling, I take the keychain from her hands to observe.
"Oh my god, look at this one!" I picked up another cute keychain where a small bunny was holding up a sign that said 'Canada'.
"Aaawww!" Mona practically yelled which caused Grayson and myself to laugh but others to turn around and give us weird looks. We didn't care though, we knew we were a strange trio.
All of a sudden, Mona's face got serious.
"By the way, where did you run off to?"
Just as I started to stiffen from the question I desperately wanted to avoid, Grayson interrupted.
"Hey let's get something to eat, I'm hungry. Maybe Old Quebec will have some grandma cookies, you know, the ones made from love~" Grayson sang the ending in such a cheesy way that Mona and I couldn't help but laugh. I mentally sighed, saved by Grayson.
