(CHAPTER ONE)
(NEW BEGINNINGS)
.
A sigh of relief exited Hunter's mouth as he stepped out of his mother's mini-van. It was his first day back at Midtown High School as a Sophomore. Hunter was never one to stick out in a crowd, he always felt himself blending in with the background whether it was at school or at parties.
As Hunter approached his locker he locked eyes with his best friend Xavier who motioned him towards the water fountain. "Hey," Xavier exclaimed as Hunter walked towards him, the two boys have been apart all summer and had little to no contact because Hunter's parents sent him to a fancy writing camp. Hunter opened up his arms to embrace his friend as Xavier dodges the hug and runs away. "Ohhh fuck you," Hunter yelled as he chased Xavier down the halls.
The two sophomores patrolled the halls looking for the main office. "Wait," Xavier says to Hunter holding his arm out in a crossing guard motion, "I think its right here". As they walk into the main office they greet faculty and ask in unison "Do you know where we can get out schedules from,". The woman sitting at her desk motions the two boys to the stack of papers laying in front of her. Hunter picks up his schedule and exits the room. As Hunter walks down the hall towards his homeroom he compares his schedule with Xavier, Xavier shrugs after finding out that him and Hunter have only one class together, they say their goodbyes and part ways as they head for homeroom.
As he gathers his belongings, Hunter sits down in the back left corner of his biology classroom. This chair was the golden chair, it had the perfect placement next to the window where Hunter could stare out of for hours upon hours without feeling apart of reality. With Hunter beginning to drift off into space the teacher Ms. Briggs begins roll call. One by One the students announce their presence until she suddenly get to Peter Parker. "Peter, is Peter here," Her voice echoed through the classroom. Within a split second Peter bursts through the classroom door screaming "Here!". "So nice of you to join us," said Briggs in a sarcastic tone as she motions Peter to the vacant seat in front of Hunter. Class swiftly goes by as they learn about the rules and regulations of the lab, towards the last five minutes of class Ms. Briggs allows the students to choose lab partners. Pretending not to listen Hunter stares at Peter as he proposes that they should be lab partners. "Yea, sure" Hunter shrugs after hearing parkers request, He could care less who his lab partner was as long as they got the work done on time. Before class ends Peter slides his number to Hunter and says "Call me to work on the project tonight. ok?," Hunter watches as Peter sticks out his hand motioning for a handshake and awkwardly fumbles it into a fist bump. "Cool Cool Cool," Hunter says as he walks away both mortified and in awe. "No one is ever that friendly" he thought to himself as he was walking down the hall to find Xavier.
As Hunter walks into the lunchroom he's hit with a roar of students trying to make their voices heard over the other several thousand. Scanning the area he looks for his Xavier but can't find him anywhere, while on his search he finds an empty table and sits alone as he waits for his best friend to find him. After a few minutes pass Xavier finally makes his way to the table."Sooooo how was class without me," Xavier mocks as he sits down at the table. "It was ok," Hunter sighs as he rolls his eyes. Hunter always asks himself how did him and Xavier become such close friends, Xavier was open, funny, charming, and athletic meanwhile Hunter was standoffish, timid and jaded. Xavier went on and on about his day explaining to Hunter how soccer try-outs went. Being the Introvert Hunter is, he zoned out adding in a couple of "yea's" and "uh-huh's" for Xaviers sake. The bell rang signaling the end of lunch as Hunter and Xavier got up from their seats they were greeted by Flash Thompson who was running up to everyone and handing out invites for a so called back to school party at his house this Saturday . Hunter then dreaded the next few words that would come out of Xavier's mouth, "Dudeee we gotta go!," Xavier exclaimed. Hunter was never a fan of parties, the loud music, the stench of alcohol on people's breath were all things that turned him away from these types of events but since it was the first party of the school year and Xavier was practically begging him with those adorable puppy dog eyes he couldn't say no. Hunter slowly nods his head as Xavier grabs his arms and spins him around the cafeteria. Hunter lets out a small grin as Xavier slowly places him back on the floor.
It was now time for the last class of the day Hunter wanders down the hall in search for his english class, soon he stumbles upon a door covered in bright blue wallpaper with the word "ENGLISH" plastered across it. He steps into the room and finds a seat in the middle of the classroom. Shortly after taking his seat the teacher begins the final roll call. "Here," Hunter said sluggishly as he laid his head on the table. "Hey can I sit here?," Hunter raised his head to see Peter Parker standing there with a sheepish grin on his face. "Sure," Hunter responded as he internally rolled his eyes. He thought to himself "Not again", from his perfectly groomed hair down to his crisply ironed pants everything about Parker seemed surreal, fake even, Hunter felt as if something was different about him and he liked that.
As the last bell rang, Hunter gathered his belongings and headed straight for the door, he couldn't wait to be free from the hell he called school. "Hey wait up," Yelled Xavier as he jogged his way up to Hunter. Hunter turned around to face Xavier as the two boys stop at the school's exit. When Xavier catches up to Hunter the two boys leave school and head toward the parking lot. "um dude do you want a ride home" Xaviers asks his best friend, Hunter nods and they enter his car.
Hunter waves goodbye to Xavier as he closes his house door and throws his book bag on the couch. He runs upstairs and jumps onto his bed and plants his face into his pillow. "UGH" He yells as he turns his body to face the ceiling, For some reason he couldn't get his mind off of the idea of having to work on a project with someone as bubbly as Peter. Hunter collects his thoughts and walks over to the kitchen to make himself some dinner, His parents were normally at work at this time so he always has to make food for himself. Lighting up the stove he places a pot of instant ramen over the fire, He grabs a whiff of the aroma and walks over to the couch where his book bag was thrown and picks it up. Laying on the couch he scrolls through the channels on tv, bored out of his mind, Hunter decides to eat his food at the table and scroll through his phone. As the sun starts to set Hunter remembers the one thing that he had to do, text Peter. At first he was hesitant looking back at the message "Hey its me" in the text bar, was it too forward, would he even know if it was me. Hunter's mind raced on and on about whether or not if the text was perfect but he sucked it up, sent the message and waited for a response.
