"You’ve been so tense, what’s up?" Jason looked down at me. My head was rested on his chest, as we lay on the large woven hammock in my garden, his arm around my shoulders.

"I got sent to the principal’s office," He looked at me blankly.

"Claire and I got into a food fight." he clasped a hand over his mouth restraining laughter.

"It’s not funny!" I sat up abruptly as he bursts into an eruption of laughter. I hit him at the top of his arm which unfortunately had no effect on him. 2Im sorry" He spluttered through his laughter. "It’s just... you don’t look like someone who would get into a food fight.

"So I’ve been told, I muttered shrugging his arm off.

"Oh come on" he said flinging his arm back like a boomerang. "You can’t get upset." I sighed, I’ve never gotten into a fight, never gotten sent to the principal’s office and never swore. A lot has happened and I’m just really exhausted right now." I lay my head back down on his chest.

He looked at me sadly "Don’t stress" he /kissed the top of my head and hopped off the hammock. "I got to go; I'll talk to you later, okay?"

I simply nodded and watched him walk away.

“He totally ignored the fact that this is a big deal!” I practically yelled into the phone.

“Don’t worry maybe something was up” Zaheera replied trying to calm me down. I breathed deeply.  “I guess you’re right, maybe I’m just over reacting.”

“Yeah,” Zaheera said “Are you okay though?” her voice softened.

“Yeah,” I replied, “I’ll talk to you tomorrow” I hung up then turned off my bedside lamp stand rested my head on my pillow. My mind drifted off and soon after I was asleep. The next morning, I woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs; I changed into a red skater dress that I got for Christmas; opaque tights and black, suede ankle boots. I trotted down the stairs and wolfed down my breakfast. Zaheera’s car hooted outside. I said bye to my mom, grabbed my bag and hopped into the car.

As soon as I walked into the school building, the long usually erupting in noise corridor was silent. The crowd of people seemed to part like the red sea, leaving us with a clear white tiled floor. The room was drop dead silent. All eyes were focused on us… on me.

“Why are they staring?” I whispered to Zaheera.

“I don’t know.” She shrugged “Just keep walking”

Our shoes seemed to click with each step we took the crowd that was pressed against the large metal lockers that lined the walls. I walked slowly to my locker. Zaheera froze her brown eyes grew large and her mouth round as she gawped at to my locker.

“Oh my fuck”

“What?” I asked but after turning towards the image on the grey metal I clearly knew what.

An image I never thought I would see again, a picture I didn’t even know was taken. There I was in my red one shouldered dress. The shoulder hanged loosely almost slipping off. The dress had ridden up higher than wanted or expected. My ass was laid on Jason’s front and my arms flung in the air. It was the evening of Chloe’s part. It was the night I got drunk. Written on the top on a thick bold marker was ‘What a first date’.

“Gorgeous picture” Claire said mockingly as she walked up behind Zaheera and I who were still frozen. She laughed menacingly and sashayed away.

“Miss Marks” the principles assistant said when she walked up next to me. I grabbed the top of the A3 sheet and ripped it off crumpling it in anger. I threw it in the closest bin and followed the lady.

“The principal will see you in a moment” she said and disappeared into the office. I sat nervously, fidgeting constantly.

“I see this is becoming a regular thing huh?” I gazed up at Kyle giving him an unamused look.

“I’m only kidding” he sat next to e.

“I know, it’s just, she’s seriously taken it too far, it like she’s out to get me! If I knew this was what I was signing up for, I wouldn’t have gone out with Jason.”

“Really?!” Kyle asked in slight disbelief. If I’m not wrong I heard a hint of excitement in his voice.

“No, I really like him. I just don’t like the baggage which is also known as Claire.”

“I’m sorry” he said sympathetically.

“Its okay, the worst is over I don’t think she has anything else against me.”

“Let’s hope not.” He gave me a reassuring smile.

“Ms Marks the principal is ready.”

I sat down on the black leather chair across from him the only thing separating us was the large mahogany desk with several items laid upon it.

“Ms Marks,” he said finally removing his glasses of his nose and looking at me intently. He then raised the picture that had been hang up on my poster and by the looks if this, probably several other places.

“You came to this school as an exemplar student and now you have been to my office twice, what is going on?” I hung my head in shame and kept quiet.

“Now listen young lady we do not accept such behaviour in my school so either you pull up your socks and shape up or get out. Understood?”

I nodded sheepishly.

“This is your last warning Ms Marks if you are sent to my office one more time, you will be suspended or depending on the case expelled do I make myself clear?”

I nodded again, vigorously. Tears swelling in my eyes.

“You can leave now” he dismissed me with the brush of his hand. I practically ran out of the office past Kyle and into my next lesson I sat in my usual seat but my face kept low.

No one dared to disturb me.
