Fuck. I looked at the clock. 3:36. I was craving. I went to my backpack and as I searched for the dope and a clean needle, my mind went kinda blank. Robotic almost. I found myself doing, yet again, what I convinced myself i wouldn’t do. My hands fell into a familiar motion; light, melt, fill, inject. As I reached the last step, my muscles tensed, then quickly relaxed. My mind cleared. I could hardly speak or move, so I just sat. I’m not sure how much time passed, or if I was asleep or awake, but when I realized I was thinking, the sun was up and I had work to do. I was meeting a new consumer today. Nothing big, just some kid wanting booze. It’s whatever. I just give people what they need, no questions asked. You gotta make a living somehow. My way just happened to be less legal than most. It’s whatever though. I’ve been through more than the average 17 year old. It was Saturday, so I didn’t have school, but I was working at Nelson’s today at five. I’m a waitress. The new kid I was meeting today, was a friend of a friend. Ashton, my ex-boyfriend, told him about me so he probably was fine. Can’t be too careful, though. And he only need whiskey I think, so it’s not a big deal. As far as ex-boyfriends go, I’ve had my fair share. Ashton’s one of the better ones though. He always respected me and the breakup was mutual. I mean, as mutual as breakups can get. We hold no animosity towards each other. We still talk and still care. I texted him.

“What time today?”

“Anytime works. Where should we meet?”
“My apartment, 45 mins. k?”

“Sounds good. See ya soon Ames.”

I showered then waited.  When I heard a knock on the door, I got up and tried to open it but it was stuck.
“Fucking shitty apartment” I muttered. “Ash, can you help?” He threw his shoulder inton the door and it flung open.

“Thanks”
“No problem babe”
I pulled him into a hug and he responded enthusiastically. His arms wrapped around my neck and mine around his waist. I blushed.
“Hey Amy.” he grinned.

“Hey Ash”

“Luke, this is Amy.”

Luke was tall, Blonde. Blue eyes. Lip ring. Perfect balance of clean cut and scruffed up. Everything I would want. That is, if I were in any state to be in a relationship. I blushed again.

“Hi Luke”

“Hey Amy”
His blue eyes met my brown ones and my heart rate picked up. I broke our eye contact.

“So, can I get you something?” I initiated.

“What’ve you got?” Ashton asked with a smirk.

I laughed. “Really, Ash? What haven’t I got? Luke, what were you thinking?”
I directed my attention to those blue eyes. “Well I just need a bottle of Jack... Is that okay?”
“Sure!” I opened my cabinet and searched.
“Wow- your collection has grown!” Ashton noticed.

I rolled my eyes and pulled the bottle out of the back.

“How much?” Luke asked
“28$”

He handed me the money and added: “Um this is for a party. My friend Michael, he’s throwing one... You could come you know...”

“Ash are you going?” I asked

“Yep. Michael’s cool. You’d like him”

“Luke, can you text my the address?” I really wanted to get to know him.

“Yeah! I’ll get your number from Ashton.” I couldn’t tell if he was happy I was going or not.

“Oh! And if you ever need anything, lemme know.” I smiled at him.

“Thanks man. I’ll be sure to let you know.”  Man? What’s that supposed to mean?

“Amy, text me sometime. I miss you.” Ashton whispered as he pulled me into his chest.

“Okay. I’ll see you tonight.”
