"All I'm saying is if the police had lights on their shoes during a foot catch, They would be taken more seriously," Carter states firmly stuffing his face with a sandwich.
"And I'm telling you they wouldn't." I giggle taking a bite of a carrot. "If cops had lights on their shoes they would be considered a laughing stock."
"Ok," Carter suggests sitting up straight. "But aren't they already considered a laughing stock?"
"No," I say shaking my head.
"Nope, Think about it. Donuts." He points out making me stop and wonder.
"That's just a joke." I laugh. "If you're going to debate something then make it better than cops with light-up shoes. I suggest.
As the loud noises of the lunchroom chatter take over. I Think about this morning. Think about if I should of went ahead and went to class. Maybe is Miss Edwards could of seen how much of a wreck I was then I wouldn't have to hide from her the rest of the day. Because now, It just looks like I was trying to skip out on the test. It's been four hours and so far no sign of Miss Edward's. Just four more hours to go and then I'm home free.
"Arleigh?" Carter questions waving his hand at me. "Are you ok? You seem worried."
"I kinda am." I sigh no longer feeling the craving for a carrot. "I should of just went to class." I say regretting my last mintue decision.
"Well it wasn't worth it. You were to late for one, and two your backpack was totaled." Carter points out.
"Doesn't matter. I..." I pause watching Caters eyes widen once again. "What? Why are you looking like that?" I ask him frantically. "You know I hate it when you make faces like that."
Just then Carter looks down and eye balls his sandwhich as if he's never seen it before. Feeling the want to turn my head and see why. I hesitate and focus on my own food when all of a sudden a warm hand with bright pink nail polish touches my shoulder.
"Miss Price. So glad you could join us." A strong firm female voice says making my heart jump straight to my feet. I was so close.
"Hi Miss Edwards." My voice comes out shaky.
"You missed quite an important test this morning." Miss Edward's reminds me.
"Yeah, well ya see..."
"Why don't you meet me after school so we can discuss what our next move shall be?" She interrupts me. Feeling her judgment vibrate off her skin is off putting. And sadly I dont have a choice not to show up. Looking into her cold lifeless eyes I nod my head in fear. Miss Edward's smiles before turning and walking away and I couldn't of felt more terrified.
"Why didn't you warn me?" I whisper scream at Carter.
"What did you think that was?" He offers talking about his wide eye.
"Literally anything Carter. You do that when you see a cute girl walk by." I point out. "It's weird."
"Well sorry!" He whipper screams back at me. "What are you going to do now?"
"What do you think? I got to meet her after school." I sigh putting my head on the lunch table.
...
As the hours passed I can feel a heart attack grow faster and faster in my chest. What will Miss Edward's want me to do? Will she enforce the test right then? Detention? Or worse...both.
Unsure of the possibilities. I stand here, eyeballing her name on the door of room two-sixteen. Knees wobbly and my heart racing I clutch all the books in my hand white knuckled.
"Come on in Miss Price." I hear Miss Edward's say from the other side.
Great there goes my leave and skip town plan.
Opening the door I see a sea of empty desks and Miss Edward's grading papers. The emptiness is over bearing.
"Take a seat please." Miss Edward's offers never looking up from her paper.
Here we go, my death sentence.
Sitting down in a chair conveniently placed on the other side of her desk. I feel uneasy. The mixture of the quiet and the scratching of a pen on paper just isn't helping my overwhelming anxiety.
"So Miss Price." Miss Edward's finally says after about ten more meinties of silence. "What shall we do about this?" She questions me.
"What about?" I ask unable to think at the moment.
"You have been tarty quite to much lately. And this time for a major test that is a very big part of your final grade." Miss Edward's points out making me feel worse.
"Now I have been lenient because I felt like you could get it together. But I can't do it anymore. You won't be taking the test Miss Price. Instead, you will be taking an F as your final grade of the semester."
"What!?" I question in belief. "Miss Edward's I need at least a C or my parents are going to freak."
"I'm sorry Miss Price. But I've made my decision. You will also be taking this test home that I have attached a note to. And you will have your parents sign it and have it on my desk bright and early Tomorrow morning. Are we clear?" Miss Edward's demands. Feeling my hands tighten around my books even more. I nod my head unable to speak.
"See you tommrow Miss Price." She glares at me handing over the unfinished test with a note. Feeling my heart sink. I glance at the note and I'm mortified. How am I going to give this to my parents?
