Chapter 1
The Town
Jack and I were going down the road to school, trying not to be late as usual. The houses are a dull gray color always plain and ordinarily. People say hi to us going down the street. Then we go down a stretch with no one on the path which weirded me out. Then we see that shadow that stares at us as we walk by. All the suddenly I hear a faint noise right next to me.
"Tom," said Jack with a very confused and scared look like he just saw a ghost.
"What, what do you want," said Tom also with a confused look.
"Do you see that?"
"Yes," said Tom,"We seen that shadow there for our hole life."
I wondered what he was thinking in that mind of his. This seems to be happening to everyone today. It happened to Mr. Peterson, Mr. hare, and now Jack. They all seemed to do the same thing, just stand their and ack like they were playing "Statues". But this seemed different. I walk up to him and it touch his shoulder. He feels like hard clay, but not fired yet by an oven.
"Anyone in their," I say trying to keep my cool ," What could you possibly be scared of."
He didn't speech or move at all. This stated to scare me so I go in front of him trying to draw his attention. But when I look into his eyes I see death, They are black and have cracks of read in them. I run, run, run as fast as I can to get help shouting "Help!" as I go. When I reach town everything seemed to be in order, my mom always trying to reach for the apple tree that was seven feet tall. She was really short for a grown adult. She had nice tan skin with blond curly hair, but as I said she was short. When she saw me running she was puzzled for a second, but I reached her quick to shack her out of her puzzlement.
"Mom, Jack... I don't know what to think of him. He's as hard as clay and has eyes that are black." I said.
She was very surprised and jumped to her feet. She sped in the direction I told her. I followed trying to keep pace with her. People started following us in puzzlement. She was really running faster and faster. By the time I got their my mom was on her knees saying something under her breath.
"Not again, not again."
