Ciel hated nightmares. He hated them with his very being- he had too many; too often, and far too horrifying images to replay in his mind in a cycle of torment. He had his fair share of gore in his past, and although his butler prevented him from getting injured on most occasions he still had saw blood shed. He had saw the life leave the eyes of the person in front of him as they collapsed to the floor and he had saw London itself become the epitome of a bonfire. And his mind thoroughly enjoyed reminding him about those same images too.
When he first took over as Head of Phantomhive Manor, he couldn't go a single night without having a nightmare of that same manor burning and of the horror on his parents face as the fire engulfed them. Perhaps, it was these nightmares that added more fuel to withstanding his cold facade, as he couldn't escape the horrors of his past. His mind wouldn't let him- he couldn't break free from the chains of his nightmares and that rare occasion that led him to unwillingly screaming in his sleep like a small child, his butler would run in. He would sit up instantly in a cold sweat and his butler would place the candle at the far side of the room, to prevent the replay of the fire in his mind and sit beside him, easing him back into slumber as if an order had been given. His crimson eyes glowing in the moonlight, with eyes shockingly full of concern, Undoubted concern which was rarely present in the demon's eyes.
As he grew older, his nightmares became less frequent; however he still experienced that odd nightmare every once in a while and his butler, would come in running again. Tonight was no different- the demon came rushing in and Ciel woke up in a frantic cold sweat.
"Easy young master, you look like you've seen a ghost."
Ciel turned towards Sebastian, however Sebastian noticed the rare presence of tears in the corner of his eyes. Sebastian eyes widened for a moment; he hadn't seen Ciel this upset over a nightmare for a while and soon began to approach his master. A sense of cautiousness evident in his actions.
"It was different" Ciel muttered. His voice raspy and dry from his fearful screams that echoed across the manor. Sebastian looked up momentarily, before placing the candle on the drawers across the room.
"How so?"
"There was no fire."
Sebastian let surprise consume him for a moment before turning towards his master. His lips slightly parted as he stared in wonder.
"How peculiar. From my knowledge you've always had the same nightmare."
"Sebastian. Come here, that is an order."
Sebastian began to walk over to the bed. He didn't question his master, merely obeying his requests although his weird behavior did cross his mind. What could he of possibly dreamt about that left him this shaken? He was brought out of his thoughts by Ciel grasping the front of his shirt and dragging him closer. Sebastian was utterly shocked at first, slowly wrapping his arms around his young master and taking a seat beside him upon the sprawled bed sheets. Ciel melted into his arms, resting his head upon the taller mans shoulder.
The two stayed that way for a while. The moonlight dripping through the curtains and bathing them in an illuminated light. There arms tightly wrapped around the other in a tight embrace and slowly but surely Ciel's frantic breathing slowed down to a soft tempo. Yet, he couldn't find himself to let go. The images still remained within his mind and his thoughts swarmed his mind endlessly of the numerous possibilities.
"... Are you alright young master?"
Ciel sighed, regrettably letting go of the front of Sebastian's waist coat. Staring blankly at Sebastian's tear-stained shirt. He didn't realize that he had been crying until Sebastian's gloved hand slowly wiped away the tears from his cheeks.
"No. I'm not. I had a nightmare even worse than the previous ones..."
"Yes I can see."
"I... Lost you. It was more terrifying than any fire."
Sebastian stared at him for a moment before shaking his head.
"You'll never loose me. Because you see: I'm simply one hell of a demon."
Ciel smiled, a small almost unnoticeable smile hardly detectable in the moonlight, yet was noticed by the demon beside him at those words, simply glancing up at his butler.
"Stay."
"As you wish young master." Ciel found himself wrapped In Sebastian's strong arms once more, but this time submerged in his bed-sheets also. It wasn't long until Ciel drifted off once more; Sebastian smiled himself. Leaning down to kiss him lightly on the forehead.
"Sleep well young master."
Finding the drowsiness catching up to him also as he too, drifted off with his master in his arms.
