CHAPTER TWO Part 1
I was blushing more than ten shades of red. Quickly, I covered my face with my hands. I had just humiliated myself on the first day of school, and this was even before the first bell rang. My brother sighed and rolled his eyes then helped me stand up. Thankfully this was a completely new school and I’m not the well-known “Kate the klutz” so people who saw barely cared about what happened. Well, I could tell not all, but some still obviously know me.
“I’m really wondering if something’s wrong with you physiological make-up sis. I mean, you’re slipping, stumbling, tripping—” And before he could even finish I cut him off.
“I am not clumsy cause I’m falling in love!” I glared at him and he just stared back.
“That wasn’t what I was going to say.”
“Oh.”
After moments of silence we burst out laughing.I shook my head as I tighten my grip on my bag. I was waiting for him to finish locking the motorbike in the parking lot when three girls whom I recognize clearly came walking toward us like runway models—it was the powerpuff girls. The leaders of my brother’s fan club. Yes, Fan Club. Even he can’t believe it, neither can I. Well, not really a fan club, but that’s what I call it and that’s what it seems like.
Want to know why I call them that? First was the red head Trixie, she was the overall leader of the group, feisty but not smart, really not smart. Next was Stacey, the one with blond hair and blue eyes. Okay she was smart and sexy but she dress like there’s a cloth shortage here in the country and she talks baby talk! Not really baby talk but the one where she talks slowly emphasizing a letter or two especially ‘R’with an up and down intonation. Last one is Hailey. She’s the scary one. Black hair and jade green eyes, she always wears punk-gothic black and white or black and red ensembles. She on the other hand wants my brother to be her prince of darkness and rule the underworld with her. You can see it know right? The Powerpuff Girls.
Scary huh? You’d probably wonder how these three became an alliance if they only have a 1% similarity which is going after my brother—that’s the worse part. At first they were reaching for each other’s necks but in our last year of middle school, they formed an alliance or a treaty that they would have equal hold on my bro. That was when things got really ugly.
I braced myself as the three got closer.
“Good morning Eugene~!” Trixie greeted covered with syrup with a cherry on top.
“Wow Trix, I didn’t know your eye sight got bad when the vacation passed. Have you had that checked?” My brother stated not even looking up.
“Huh? My eyesight isn’t bad. But that’s so sweet of you giving me a new nickname!” Trixie pried, obviously wanting to hog the spotlight all to herself.
“Dummy.” Stacey cut in. She was about to speak further when Gene stopped her even before she starts.
“Sarcasm, the way to insult an idiot without her knowing. Obviously I was saying that I’m not the only person here. Kate also is.” This time Trixie was red with embarrassment since she figured that hit was for her.
“Come on. We’re gonna be late.” Trixie huffed and puffed as she turned around. Stacey and Hailey just rolled their eyes but soon followed suite leaving a hot trail of cold glare towards me. I just sighed and shook my head in return.
Okay, so that was a lie. The one about me having many girlfriends because my brother was popular. It was the exact opposite actually. My mom requested the me and Gene be put together in every class since she know how much of a klutz I was, so I needed protection somehow. The school agreed, it wasn’t a surprise since even the school was informed of my excessive clumsiness. You don’t know how possessive, protective, and over reactive my brother is. Most of the time, his attention is only me and he doesn’t care about what’s going on around him. Obviously, no girl or guy for the matter was happy about that. It seems like he was traumatized when I went into coma because of my clumsiness when we were kids.
He saw in his own eyes how I was hit by an oncoming truck. Mother was busy paying the taxi fare while me and Eugene waited by the road. But then across, I saw my classmates waving at me, at us, telling us to cross already. Knowing me, I looked left and right for oncoming cars and when I saw nothing I decided to cross. Of course Gene tried to stop me but he couldn’t and at the time we spent in our small bickering the truck came into the scene. But I didn’t know, I wouldn’t have known. So I still crossed, I wouldn’t have been hit, I would’ve have gotten across if not for the teensy weensy bump I failed to notice on the asphalt ground. I tripped on it, it’s my habit to look for injuries when things like that trip or fall because mom always said I should know the level of damage I did to myself. I noticed the scrape on my elbows and mild lacerations on my knees, but I what I did not notice was the truck coming 100kph straight at me. But my brother did. He was the first one to attempt to save me if not for my mother who held him firmly, if she didn’t it would have been the both of us who’d been hit. My mother, brother, classmates, and even teachers saw how the truck hit me as I look up when I heard its horn. The Blood and Gene who was quickly running to me was the last memories I had as I blacked out. Thankfully an ambulance that was passing by was there to witness the said accident occurred and so they quickly did first aide. Since then, I believed that first aides can really do save lives. Also, since then, my brother had been over protective of me which in some ways are good, and in some are bad.
