Joshua Gunner's POV

"I'm here for you Dauntless," I whisper to her, hoping she heard it before she slipped into unconciousness. Her slender figure is curled in the shape of a ball inside the remains of her car. Bryn's brown and golden hair remains still in its braided form but a deep red has been introduced as the blood from her wounds seeps into her hair. Isaac releases my waist as I lean over and move her braid so it's no longer being stained from the wounds on her back. People are crowding around, talking amongst one another and asking questions. In the background, I hear the sound of sirens. After staring at her motionless body for another minute, I can't take it anymore. Remembering my first aid training, I assess the area before hurrying over to my car and grabbing a blanket from the trunk. People that stand nearby stare at me-until I ask for help. A lady and three men rush over to my side.

"We are going to put the blanket underneath her and then gently lift her out of the car, alright?" My gaze shifts from person to person as they nod. We return to the side of Bryn's Mustang and unfold the blanket. I carefully climb into the car, gently manuvering Bryn until she s in the middle of the blanket. On the count of three the five of us lift the blanket and set it down on the pavement. As I lean over, kneeling down beside her, I thank the four people that helped me. Isaac is at my side in a second, staring sadly at his sister's face. He looks up at me with tears filling the brims of his eyes before he buries his face in my chest. Isaac mumbles something into my chest but I don't catch it, which requires him to lean back and repeat his question.

"Are you Bryn's boyfriend?" Her brother looks so clueless and I didn't even have time to process what I was thinking before an answer flew out of my mouth.

"Yeah I am." I blurt out, clearing my throat as I proceed to introduce myself. "My name's Josh." A small smile forms on his face.

"Good thing I like you then." He jokes, and due to the amount of stress I'm under I surprise myself by chuckling and smirking at his comment.

"I guess it is." The sirens come up screaming behind me and suddenly paramedics are swarming around the blanket.

"Who removed her from the vehicle?" A thin, clean shaven paramedic barks from beside the ambulance.

"I did," I respond quickly. The man looks about ready to explode as he moves closer to me; Isaac wimpers quickly leaving the area near the car (I think there's someone here that he knows and keeps going to see). However another man with dark skin, solid looking upper body and small goatee stops him and points towards the police officers hurrying in this directions while others try to get the road blocked off. Nodding, the paramedic with anger issues moves away while the man that stopped him comes over and squats down beside me.

"My name is Lieutenant Waters young man, you said you were the one that removed the lady from the vehicle?" I nod slowly.

"That was a very dangerous thing to do son." The man looks at me sternly.

"I understand sir, I am trained in advanced first aid. From the look of her though as the crash occurred, she is not suffering from a spinal injury of any kind. When she spoke to me prior to passing into unconciousness, she turned her head to look at me and did not show any signs of having loss of feeling, or any pain besides injuries that were sustained on impact." Lieutenant Waters watches me carefully.

"Was she alone in the vehicle-"

"My name is Josh." I say, cutting him off.

"Thank you, Josh-was she alone in the vehicle?"

"No sir, her younger brother was in the passenger seat." He nods solemnly.

"Well I'm sorry for his sister." I'm taken aback by his comment and raise my eyebrow.
