Vienna's POV
I push the curtain aside with my pinkie and stare out the window, "They look nothing alike," I wonder.
Nathan hadn't checked who it was through the peephole before opening the door. Instead when a cheerful, "Brother!" bounced off the walls, he had quickly pulled the hand away before he could enter the house with a snappy, "Don't call me that."
Now they've been outside talking for God knows how long and I'm sitting here wondering how the hell they're related. So called brother looks nothing like Nathan. He has black, over moisturized hair that sits on his shoulders, his cheekbones are highly defined, marked with a large scar on the right one, and his eyes are a light shade of grey. Wait, I know this guy.
A memory from last night flashes in my head. I remember me slapping the same guy and calling him a clown. I quickly let the curtain down when he turns to my direction and stare at Lexis who's perched on my lap, "Do you think he saw me?"
"Oh God, please don't let him come in here," I pray, looking up at the ceiling with my hands folded. I look back out and see them walking back to the apartment, "Oh God, why is he coming in here?"
The front door opens, they both walk in. Lexis hops off me and I dive into the couch face first, covering my head with a pillow. Argh, wait, why am I even doing this?
"Vienna, what are you doing?"
I don't even know myself, I just stay put until the pillow suddenly gets pulled off my head sharply, Nathan grabbing my shoulders and forcing me up. I blink awkwardly between both parties. "Hello."
Nathan looks annoyed. Standing by the other guy, they seem relatively the same height, but the latter was probably around Quinn's age. The other guy grins broadly, "Hello, princess. Remember me?"
His smile doesn't leave his face, I get up nervously and rub my feet against eachother. "Yeah..." Gosh, why does he make me so nervous, I've never been like this before. I glance at him, his eyes sparkle in a slightly menacing way, like they're begging me to stare a little longer. I blink back.
"I don't think we've been properly introduced," he says, his voice smooth; an uncanny sense of intimadation about it. "Nathan, won't you do that?"
Nathan stares at him long and hard, then scoffs. "Vienna, this is my stepbrother, Nicholas. Nicholas, this is, Vienna."
"Vienna. A pretty name for a pretty face-"
"Okay, Nicholas, you wanted to meet her. You've done that, you can go now."
Nicholas smiles innocently over at Nathan who's eyes are blazing with rage. Whatever's going on between them, yeah its definitely not good. And I, well I don't want to be in the middle of that. I shuffle slowly out of the living room during there little eye contest, "I'll be upstairs if you'll excuse me-"
"Wait, princess."
Ugh gosh, this guy.
"I'm having a little get together later tomorrow evening and you're invited. It's by the lake."
Nathan perks up with a sideways smile, for the first time; it's not a genuine one. The wrinkles around his eyes that seemed like a permanent feature had disappeared. His baby blue eyes were a darker shade now, cold and matching the same menancing sense that radiates from Nicholas'. Goosebumps suddenly appear on my arms, I roll down my sleeves, hiding my fingers in them.
"What makes you so sure she'll be there."
Nicholas laughs, its as smooth as his voice, and just as intimidating. "No need to be jealous, you can come too."
Lexis scratches at my feet, I pick her up, eyes on the two that stand eyeing themselves. I clear my throat, "I- I'll be there... sounds fun."
"Excellent."
My ears twitch. It's a few seconds of us just standing there. Then the front door opens and Quinn closes it behind her oblivious of the three human maniquinns all staring at her. She stops with wide eyes gaping at Nicholas, "What's this frog face doing here?"
Said frog face rolls his eyes, "Good evening to you too, chicken legs."
"Nathan, pass me my bat."
Nathan smirks, "Gladly."
"Nathan, you will do no such thing."
"You're not the boss of me, Barrington."
"And she is."
He scoffs, then throws the bat over Nicholas to a raging Quinn who catches it effortlessly. "Now, you have two choices, get out or get the hell out."
Can we all just stop and imagine how awkward this whole thing is for me. First of all I have no idea of the back story, I've never seen Nathan this manly, Quinn is about to play baseball with a human male, courtesy of Nicholas who is totally giving me a weird "I'm a dangerous guy" vibes.
Nicholas smirks, then turns to me with a wink. "I'll see you there Princess."
Quinn and Nathan share a glance, Nathan answers his sister's confused expression, "She's not going."
On the way out Quinn and Nicholas bump shoulders, Quinn's bag falls in the process and a case slips out. The kind of case were a huge necklace is kept, and from that case, an actual jewelled necklace, with an emerald half the size of my small fists slides down the tiles and stops right in front of me. Just as Nicholas is about to make out what it is, Quinn slams the door in his face, leaning against it with a look of fear and relief on her face.
I look at Nathan, and notice he's just as confused about the necklace as I am. Quinn sends us both apologetic glances and shuffles to put everything back together. I awkwardly put Lexis back on the ground then place my hands on my hips. "So... What are we having for dinner?"
The siblings stare at me. "You don't want to know what's going on?!"
I scoff and roll my eyes at Nathan, "Well of course I do, but there's no way I'm hearing it on an empty stomach."
