Cape Salem is a town rested in the middle of Busan's east countryside. It has a population of about 10,000 residents. In idealistic terms it's the perfect place for my family and I to start fresh.

I woke up this morning with reluctancy. I didn't sleep well the previous night, I had too much on my mind. Today's my first day at Dong-A, usually I'm not that nervous but so much has changed over the past few months there hasn't been a day where I've felt at ease. I haven't ventured out into the town over the summer so I don't have any friends in the area aside from my brother I guess.

I climbed out of bed and did my usual head to toe stretch. I walked to the opposite side of my room and sat down in front of my clean vanity mirror, then switched on the table side lamp. It took my eyes a moment to adjust to the light, I blinked several times until I saw the picture of myself in the mirror. My long black hair hung loosely in front of my face, my complexion was flushed and misjudged. I rubbed my eyes to remove any excess sleepy dust and then dragged my feet into the bathroom next-door. I turned on the cold tap and splashed my face with the water, refreshing myself before I had to finish the rest of my appearance.

I had already picked out my outfit the previous night. I went with a checkered mini skirt and a short sleeved white tee. followed up by my favourite denim jacket and a belt themed choker. I don't often wear make-up but I wanted to make a good impression today, so I applied some light rose blush and adjusted my eye makeup with eyeliner, mascara and tinted my eyebrows.

I traipsed out of my room in to hallway

I traipsed out of my room in to hallway. My house was fairly average, it's a wooded bungalow style home set up on a slanted hill. The interior it self revolved around 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a living-dining area.

"Morning" , I greeted my father as I walked into the kitchen.

"You're missing something there Soyoung" , my father replied.

"What do you mean-?" , I stood confused.

"No good? You usually say 'Good morning'. " , my father chuckled.

I smiled and headed to the cupboard, opened it up and looked for some food. My father tapped me on the shoulder and looked down his nose to face me. He turned me around in the direction of the dining table. I was so weary that I hadn't noticed the decorative display of breakfast laid neatly on the table, and my brother sat with his arms crossed on one of the chairs.

"Ah Soyoung you really are oblivious these days" , Sin-ho shook his head in disbelief.

"I made a meal for you and your brother yet you have no recognition about you today!"

"Sorry father, I'm just very tired". I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and laughed at both comments my family had said.

I sat down at the table next to Sin-ho, followed by my father. My father beckoned for us to begin eating. I helped myself to some of the rice and vegetables, they were freshly roasted and I could still feel the warmth of the delicacy in the air. I didn't have much of an appetite this morning, I was too nervous for the day ahead.

"Now Soyoung, are you prepared for your first day following in your brothers footsteps?"

I rolled my eyes slightly. I was prepared but felt uneasy, my father's always wanted the best for me and since he's such a hard worker I don't want to disappoint him. I couldn't let on that I wasn't 100% prepared nor confident.

"Yes father, I'm very excited" , I lied straight through my teeth.

"It's a shame you're not specialising in economics like Sin-ho, you two could've been great partners in the future" , My father stated.

"Father she has talent in artistry, some people aren't made for the business world". My brother exclaimed.

I've always got along with my brother. He's very protective over me but I love that, whenever my parents were arguing he would always be by my side. Although Sin-ho is only two years older than me it felt like he were a wise man. He's always got the best advice and always knows what to say to make people feel better.

...

Breakfast flew past in a hurry and soon the grandfather clock chimed, signalling it was time for Sin-ho and I to leave. Both our backpacks were rested against the main door so we could pick them up on the way out.

My Father patted my brother on the back and wished him a good day. Then he came up to me and gave me a warm embrace.

"Soyoung have the best day, keep your chin up and I know just about everyone will love you!", my father gleamed at me with pride.

I smiled in return , "Not everyones going to love me father!"

"Oh don't be silly, who wouldn't love my daughter!"

By this point of the conversation Sin-ho was already waiting outside by the shrubs and it looked like he was getting bored. I gave my father one last hug then rushed out the door. I met Sin-ho in the front garden and we both stood waving goodbye to father.

I turned around to face the downside of the hill. Sin-ho began walking ahead of me. I took a deep breath and looked at my surroundings. The sun was beaming delicately, at only half past seven in the morning it was prime time for a picturesque scene. The street was quiet and no vehicles were in motion.

"Soyoung, are you coming? we can't miss the bus!"

"Ah sorry Sin-ho" I jogged after him.

I smiled, I was still nervous but felt a little at ease since I was with Sin-ho. Dong-A university, here I come.
