The distant vibrations managed to get Drey out of her slumber. She'd just slept a few hours ago and yet it felt like minutes to her. Her phone was ringing; More like vibrating to wake up Satan himself.
She stretched her hand out and tried to grab her phone but it seemed to have been lost in the vast mass of pillows and her beautiful green comforter. What seemed like hours to Drey passed but her bloody vibrating phone was nowhere to be found and it still hadn't stopped vibrating. No way were they messages, it had to be a call and if it's this late, it must've been important.
Drey finally extended her hand underneath the pillow closest to the plug point behind her bed. Upon searching a little, she managed to touch the cord of her phone's charger that was marginally vibrating too. She followed the length up to her phone which she found face down on her bed, blinking to no end.
Without thinking twice, she received the call. Not bothering with the caller id, she wanted it to get over quickly. She had to get up early the next morning and wanted to have adequate sleep to walk through the day.
"Hello?" She answered the call with a groggy voice, hoarse under sleep. This had better get over quick.
There was some mumbling on the other end that made very little sense to Drey. It could be possible because of her sleep induced state that might lead her to hear nothing but gibberish but of course, she'd be the last to agree to that.
"Hello?" She repeated after a minute of silence from both sides. This time her voice came out clearer than before but still hoarse.
"Hello. Is this Drey?" A gentle voice spoke from the other line. Even in her state, she smiled insignificantly. The voice was such a pleasant tone to hear.
"Speaking," she sighed. "Who is this?"
"Ah Drey. It's you," the voice huffed out loud. By now Drey was going to drift off to dream land again.
"Yes," she managed to say before closing her eyes again.
"Drey, uh... it's me. Jongdae," the other line spoke ever so hesitantly. Drey could sense the nervousness.
"Jongdae?" She repeated, unsure of what she'd heard. Jongdae... Jongdae, where had she heard the name before? Why was the name and voice so familiar and yet she couldn't place a body or head to them.
"Yeah, Jongdae," he confirmed. "You know, Chen. Of Exo. Kim Jongdae."
Jongdae? Chen? Exo? ... Exo?! Drey snapped her eyes open and sucked in a short breath.
"Holy crap," she exclaimed. "Jongdae? Is that you?"
"Yeah," he chuckled over the line. Drey held her head, trying to get the sudden blood rush to her head away.
"God damn it," she mumbled as she buried her head back in the pillows. "Is it actually you?"
"Yeah Drey, it's me," he confirmed. "Did something happen?"
"Ah, no," Drey sighed, keeping her free arm to cover her eyes. "Hi."
"Hi," Jongdae said and then the line went silent. Neither of them would speak.
Jongdae didn't expect anything different from Drey. He hadn't expected her to pick his call either. He hadn't called her ever since they last met. Drey had messaged him a safe journey, but he was so busy on the airport, he had no time to reply. After that, what with his schedule, there wasn't a chance to breathe for himself, much less contact anyone other than family. How could he expect a girl to forgive him for acting like a jerk he thought he was?
"Um," he cleared his throat. "Drey?"
"I'm here," she responded, her heart beating slightly faster.
