Exactly 7:00 a.m.

Evelyn

"WAKE UP! LAZY BUM!" my mom woke me up, with a regular smile on her face. I groaned with morning grumpiness and put my head back on the pillow. Strange, considering I didn't remember lifting it in the first place. I was having one of those, "Did I just wake up? Or was that a dream?" feelings. It was our first day in Belgium this year and mom already expected me to get used to the time! Did she not understand that it was 1 a.m. in America? At least where we lived, in Rhode Island.

The sun was up and shining, but the sky was grey and the french-doors to the balcony of my bedroom were frosted lightly with frozen morning dew. I looked over at the alarm clock next to my bed.

Yup! I thought, 7:00 a.m! Just like she said she'd wake me up!

I took out my cell phone, which I forgot didn't have service right then! Apparently we had to do some weird special thing to have service in foreign places. Whatever! It still worked, though.

I checked my phone for the date and time. It was the 20th.

Wait....the 20th? And it's December...whoa! Tomorrow is the end of the world! I thought.

I smiled and laughed quietly to myself and got out of bed. I went over to the balcony, and screamed, "TOMORROW IS THE END OF THE WORLD!" well, of course I realized no one would understand what I had said so I say it again in french, "Demain est l'EXTREMITE du MONDE!" haha! But last time I checked all french-speaking people could understand English.

Oh well...guess they heard it twice!

I then ran over to my bed and landed on my back right on-top the absolutely comfy peach-coloured duvet. I had hidden my iPod under the pillows, so I stretched out my hand under them and searched for it, using my sense of touch. Of course it was one of those annoying moments when you can't find it like that, so I flipped over on my stomach and threw all the pillows to the foot of the bed one-by-one. Funny how you always find your iPod or cell phone under the very last pillow you think to look under!

But eventually, finally! My pretty, shiny, green iPod shuffle...thingy. Of course, while everyone else had the iPod touch I didn't want one! Two reasons...One, is that I wanted to prove a teenager can live without all that lazy touch-screen stuff. The second reason being, iPod touches didn't come in cool colors!

At the beginning of this year I had bought the song 'It's the end of the world' by R.E.M. and just WAITING for the day I could play it...today! My plan was to play it over-and-over all day until the next morning came. Then I was going to post on my Facebook, "Is anyone else alive!?" yup! Some status, eh?

But right then, I needed one thing and one thing only. And if I didn't get it I'd be crying the whole day long and not even care for the dang music...

Breakfast!

Oh wait I need to wash up first. Blech! To the bathroom!

I wasn't too excited about how I looked! "AHHHHHH! Whoa!" I started with a dramatic-girlish scream then just stopped. I looked terrible! Who doesn't in the morning? Besides my brother, Kade who claims he looks naturally good in the morning, but I just know he gets up an extra two hours early just to get himself ready! But I looked BAD! That gross crud in the corners of my eyes, my hair all crazy and wild, and just GREAT! A new zit to wake up to!
