I was awoken by screaming, i look to my right and see it's four in the morning so, I don't think much of it maybe it's nothing but then my lungs begin to burn as I gasp for air I begin to claw at my throat thinking this is the end, I try to clam myself down but the burning it hurts so much but it's some what bearable like it's coming to a end as I smell fire and gasoline I hear sirens, I feel a slight pain in my back as I go flying to the other side of my room a car just crashed into my house and the guy in the driver seat is screaming as he claws into his throat gasping for air, he draws blood from all the scratching but he doesn't stop he only continues to scream louder, then he just drops onto the steering wheel making the horn go off, I cup my ears trying to stop the noise but it's no use I try to stand up but to my efforts, I feel an even sharper pain as I fall to the ground wincing in pain I hold my side, I bring my hand to the light from the burning car that's, inside my room now, it's just far enough to not burn you but just close enough to illuminate the area, your hand is covered in blood, you start to pick up your breathing only to have it burn like hell.
"Fuck! What the hell is happening" you hold your throat and try to calm down and steady your breathing. After you've steadied your breathing the burning stops but not fully you can still feel a slight heat growing in your lungs, the pain from your side and lungs is a bit too much for you, but your still able to stay awake, glancing around your room seeing if anything around could help you stand and get to the restroom to patch up your bleeding side, afterwards hopefully you can figure out why your lungs are burning, you glance to the left of you and see your best furry friend on the floor blood flowing out of his nose and mouth, you gasp and scurry away from him he's still breathing but all the blood and he's not moving...you're on the verge of crying but the pain suppresses any other emotions right now, you can't stand what's happening right now, is this hell? is this the horrible end of the world?why does every breath burn? your mind went blank you can't feel anything not even the sharp pain from your side even the burning in your lungs has subsided, you feel like you're floating and nothing else matters in this moment, until you're just dropped back into the reality that is in front of you. Your now still dog in a pool of his own blood and the guy who's car was driven into your room sending you flying across the room cutting your side and to top it all off the burning sensation is back, pushing all this to the back of your mind you force yourself to move wincing in pain as you stand and move to your bedroom door, you reach for the handle when a huge explosion goes off somewhere near your house. You pull open your door and see that most of your home is gone nothing but fire and debris remains where the rest of your home should be, your family flashes into your mind you fall to your knees and start to break down, your lungs not helping in anyway as you scream into the sky, you feel the burning but you ignore it, screaming more as blood starts to flow from the corner of your mouth, you've decided to stop and just lay down to rest for this was one hell of a way to wake up.
You awake to the sun on your face you sit up and yawn, confused on where you woke up. you rub your eyes as everything rushes back to you, you don't want to believe it, it all felt like a really bad nightmare but you can still feel the burning sensation in your lungs the small heat of something growing in them, you remember to keep clam and steady your breathing, you sigh, the feeling of burning is still there but it doesn't feel as if it's growing anymore, you try to stand but that sharp pain is back you quickly grab your side and wince at the pain your shirt is hard from all the dried blood, you can't help but laugh at yourself
"so much for going the restroom and patching myself up" you sigh and force yourself to stand you walk into your yard and look in shock at the sight in front of your eyes, most of the houses are fine but as for the rest, most of them were on fire and still burning, every tree I can see has a car smashed into them, every yard has someone in the yard on their knees with scratches all over their neck as if everyone was trying to claw for air, what happened to everyone? Why is the air burning our lungs? Why am I the only one still alive in my neighborhood I don't see anyone else, no animals either, I freeze up thinking about my dog he died in a pool of his own blood, I shake it out of my mind not wanting to think about it anymore but my family flashes before my eyes again, my mother smiling as my father walks up behind her giving her a kiss on the cheek, my eyes begin to water as my twin brother and sister run past me arms open to hug my mom and dad. they all look at me and smile as they mouth something I can't understand, as they all turn around walking away from me. I start to panic "wait! Don't leave me!" You gasp as the burning sensation start to build up in my lungs "mom, dad, Nik and Lily...please don't leave me alone" you fall to your knees tears in your eyes refusing to fall, you slam your fist on the ground feeling so many emotions at once yet not feeling anything other then that damn heat in your lungs that unsettling feeling of not knowing what's causing it and that strange comfort of warmth it brings you, not sure how to feel about it you calm yourself, which for some reason is all to easy to do for you even with all the dead bodies and burning around you and that horrible smell in the air, you shiver what is that smell? You glance over and see a burning object making it's way at you moving effortlessly over all obstacles in its way, it's locked onto you, a feeling of dread washes over you as you stand and start to make your effort to get away from this burning object, I'm calling it an object because of the way it is moving, it's rolling like a ball but when something looks as if it's gonna stop it rolling it just phases right over it not losing any speed, I make a dash across the street ignoring the sharp pain in my side I try the door. it's unlocked! I rush in as the burning object makes it's way towards my direction I quickly slam the door and make my way deeper into this house, the smell in here was no better then outside you glance to the right two figures on their knees with scratches on their necks clawing for air again, you can't help but think why isn't this bothering me? Why am I so calm with all this? You hear a loud crash as you glance behind you, the burning object has just knocked out the wall of the house, you can feel the heat coming from it now it's really close so without thinking you dash for the back door, it's rushing just as quickly after you, as you push open the door and make your way outside you just as quickly lose the floor from under you as you fall into a pool the object not far behind you a loud sizzling sound is let out as the object falls into the pool disappearing leaving nothing but smoke which quickly dissipates into the sky. You make your way to the surface of the pool gasping for air, you quickly try to stop thinking your gonna start feeling that burning sensation but you're surprised to feel nothing, you quickly make your way out of the pool and onto the dry land "I absolutely hate swimming, but that swim saved my life" you sigh and sit up looking at the pool that ate that burning object, what even was it? Where did it come from? Why did it come after me? You questioned your last thought "why did it come after me?!" You laugh to yourself "probably because I'm the only one left in this damn world!!" You fall back onto the ground sighing, but once you look up you see a small girl hovering above you
"You're not alone Mr."
